Am I the only girl who doesn't want a poofy ball gown? All my friends and family wants to see me in a princess type gown and they say its only one time in your life that you can wear a dress like that. I am reluctant but I will try a couple to quiet them and I will admit there are some niceLazarro dresses and Maggie Sottero ball gowns, but Im more a fit and flare lace girl. Wondering if I should bring them and their opinions to try on dresses? Did you bring an entourage?

I think you should try on all different types of dresses. You never know which will look best and you may be surprised. I tried on all sorts of dresses even though I wanted a mermaid style and I got one too. I had 8 people with me: my mom, MIL, 4 BMs (including my sister and MOH) and two really good friends. Worth it.

The same thing happened to me... my mom, and a few bms were insisting on a ball gown, i mean i do love it and the dresses are gorgeous but its not so my personality, i like to feel pretty but sexy at the same time, so I choose a fit and flare, which gave me the illusion of a sexy mermaid/trumpet and also half ball gown.. I love its gorgeous and bought it without telling them because as much as I appreciate their opinions, I needed opinions on what looked best and made me feel gorgeous, but they were giving opinions based on what they like for themselves.. So I say go for what YOU like because its your dress but DEF. try all styles!

We are having a Hawaiian Luau at a local Senior center. I don't have the money for any fancy dresses, and have never been into the big white dress with all the stuff that goes with it. The girls and I are getting hawaiian sundresses and FH and the groomsmen are wearing plain black shorts and hawaiian shirts with cars on them, they are all car guys.

Try not to think you ahould please everyone. It's YOUR wedding & your choice of dress. I went alone & bought my princess gown on my first trip out. I LOVE it! Also, I'm older, and this is not my first (or second!) marriage, but my very first wedding gown! I'm also marrying a man who's a LOT younger than I am... but I'm not at all worried about who' might be talking behind my back! Choose what makes YOU feel pretty, what puts a smile on your face.

I always prefer to shop alone so I didn't take anyone with me.

YES, definitely try every style on regardless of whether or not you take anyone with you. I wore a ball gown at my first wedding. I had wanted something flowing and simple and my mom sat with me for an hour or so through that appointment as I rejected dress after dress. Very nice and very supportive. At the end of the appt she said she thought I should try on a ballgown just "to see." Because she had been so patient with me while I tried on dresses I wanted to try, I agreed. I fell in love instantly. Sometimes mom does know best :-)

My point is keep an open mind, and you can try every dress on so why not.

My wedding gown was a poofy ball gown that I loved. Honestly when I first started trying on gowns I would always lean towards A-line,Mermaid and trumpet dresses. My first gown choice was a mermaid actually but when I went to try on gowns for the last time my MOH made me try on the ball gown just for fun and just like that I fell in love with it. I never thought I would be in a princess gown for my wedding day but like the others say keep your options open becuase you never know.
