The dress outing and the poofy ball gown dilemma

WeddingDestinationItaly, on October 20, 2013 at 1:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Am I the only girl who doesn't want a poofy ball gown? All my friends and family wants to see me in a princess type gown and they say its only one time in your life that you can wear a dress like that. I am reluctant but I will try a couple to quiet them and I will admit there are some niceLazarro dresses and Maggie Sottero ball gowns, but Im more a fit and flare lace girl. Wondering if I should bring them and their opinions to try on dresses? Did you bring an entourage?

I would just keep an open mind qhen dress shopping and try on several different silhouettes. So many people end up with dresses they never thought they would love, but it just ends up being the most flattering. Don't limit yourself to what you try on. Just go in with an open mind and find what makes you feel the moat beautiful.

When I went dress shopping, I swore I would end up with an A-line. I tried on everything, including a ball gown, and I ended up with a trumpet style. The ball gowns were super pretty and made me feel like a princess but they were too much dress for me. At 5'2 they made me look short and stumpy Smiley sad Try one of everything though! You never know.

I would try on every single silhouette there is and then decide what you would want. The majority of people swear that they will want or get a specific type of dress and then get another. For me, I think ball gown looks the best on my body type. But I'm a sucker for a gorgeous mermaid.

I would say try on what you think you're in love with but venture out too. I did not think I was a lace girl at all and ended up with the Sophia Tolli Jillian- fit and flare and super lacy!

I def didnt want one, but I ended up with one. It's not a true ball gown in my opinion, especially cause I'm not putting crinoline under it. I thought i wanted a very simple a line then i put this one on and fell in love with it. Stick with what you want, but please be open to trying styles you think you don't want.

I totally thought I wanted one until I tried them on and I hated the way it looked on me! Try on a little bit of everything. I only brought my mom and sister, and it was perfect, I don't think I would have wanted any more.

I went alone because I didn't want to hear any opinions other than my own.

I would suggest trying a few different types of gowns on anyway because you may be surprised with what you end up liking.

Hun you get anything you want, its your day! If they wont support you dont bring them, but I know every girl wants her girls with her to try dresses on, so just explain how you feel and make sure they know it!

I always thought I wanted the big poofy gown and when I went dress shopping it was the first style I put on and I loved it then I put on a fit and flare (more of an asymmetrical drop waist gown) and LOVED the way it fit! I couldn't believe how much it flattered my figure b/c I HATE my curves but I just couldnt do the big princess gown b/c it hid everything and was just blah! there was no figure at all. just dress LOL .... so keep an open mind, you might be surprised. I only took my mom with me b/c I just wanted to see what styles I liked and get an idea of what to look for in the future and she gave her opinion but still kept reminding me that it's my day and I can wear whatever I want. Good luck! Smiley smile

Watch a few episodes of Say Yes to The Dress and you will definitely want to leave the entourage at home

I went by myself, and actually wound up with a dress I didn't even want to try on... I was completely against satin because I thought it would be too big and heavy for a spring wedding, but it was perfect.

It's your wedding. Don't let them pick out what YOU want! Plus, it's not the ONLY time... there was prom(s)... and homecoming(s).

I only brought my mom - I knew what I wanted. I want not a princess dress type girl, I think if I got married when I was younger I would have picked a big poofy dress but for what we are going for and the venue it really wouldn't fit.

The more people you bring the harder it can be to listen to yourself, its your dress and your day - you go with whatever you want! Smiley smile

I'm a fit and flare girl, myself. But I would suggest trying one on just to see if you like it, why not. You never know. I never wanted a ball gown, but I loved trying them on, really made me feel like a bride. I knew it wasn't pratical for my venue, but it was still fun!

I find that more and more people are going away from the poof. I am actually the first one that I can remember since my sister who had a poofy dress, and she got married 15 years ago, lol.
