The dress fomo is real

Rebecca, on September 18, 2019 at 12:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29
So I still am having some concerns about the dress I picked out. The color and not knowing how the straps I want added on to the strapless dress is gonna turn out is literally haunting me. It was at the first store I went to, when I went to the second store that same day I kept comparing everything to my dress from the first store. I need some hard and true tough love first hand experience. I am thinking about looking at one more store this weekend for dresses. I’m either going to compare everything to the dress I already bought (Sottero and Midgley-originally $2,100 that I got for $900 off the rack) or I’m gonna fall in love with a new dress and be out the money from the original dress and just have it sitting around for nothing. What should I do? Ive attached my dress for reference (it’s champagne with ivory lace overlay)

(The straps in the picture are just for a sense of off the shoulder straps and will not be that since the lace doesn’t match)

It’s utterly romantic and swoonworthy. You look like Belle. Only you can decide if you need a new dress or not but I love your dress on you. I was a dress regret bride. I had a beautiful lace mermaid dress but it just wasn’t me. To me it was worth it to get a new dress and sell my old one but I lost out on a good chunk of money. If your dress is truly making you unhappy and stressed then there’s no shame in trying again but weigh your stress now against the stress of coming up with the money for a new dress. Good luck hun ❤️

The dress you have is stunning 😍😍 the color looks great with your skin tone since you’re pretty pale, it doesn’t wash you out like white sometimes can, it brings out the natural color you have. If you compared everything to that dress, It’s likely you’re goin to do the same at the next store. Plus, you got it for a steal. Odds are, you’re going to fall in love with a more expensive dress that won’t be off the rack, and you’ll have to worry about how to pay for it, and it’ll ruin any love you might have had for the dress you already bought. Sometimes all it takes is a small change to make all the difference in the world, and sometimes that’s just a proper fit.

I know the fomo problem. I want to go try on more dresses but I know I already have one and I can’t afford to buy another one, and my parents paid for the 1st dress. So I’m working on falling back in love with the dress i have. I’m adding a cape to jazz up the bottom without shelling out a ton of money to add beading directly to the dress instead of getting a whole new dress, and that’s made a huge difference already.

I had serious dress regret and it took me buying 3 different wedding dresses to finally find "the one". I can tell you from experience, the extra money spent was 100% worth it. I got so many compliments on the dress at my wedding. The others I bought were beautiful dresses, they just weren't "me". There were two main issues; both of the runner-ups were ivory and I loved the look of white on me. I felt the ivory just looked like a dirty wedding dress. And I had been trying on the wrong silhouette the whole time. The dresses I originally had been trying on were A-line and I ended up with a trumpet. Go with your gut, try on more dresses. I had dress regret so bad, that I didn't even want to walk down the aisle in the other dresses. I was dreading my wedding because of it.

If it's in budget, go to the third store. If not, don't go. I think your dress is stunning and you'll love it even more after alterations. It's stunning! I added off the shoulder straps to my dress and made them detachable so I could take them off after the ceremony.

I struggled with this. My dress is also champagne/ivory which is not what I was looking for. I had serious regrets it was keeping me up at night. I'm a decisive person so it was so unlike me to stew over a dress and I was mad at myself for it. I bought from the first store I went to on the first outing after trying about 15 dresses. Ultimately I decided to keep looking and went to about 3 more stores by myself. I figured that if I found one I liked more I would just bite the bullet and buy a new one and sell the old one. I tried on at least 25 more dresses and found 2 that I liked almost as much but was still unsure. I posted them on another forum (weddingbee) in a poll and it was like 99% of people who voted (and a lot of people did) said my original dress was the winner. ha ha. Then i decided maybe I want my original dress but in ivory/ivory. I called the store I had purchased from and they had me come in and try a similar dress (same designer and general style) in ivory/ivory as they didn't have my exact dress in that colour option. They told me they would contact Kenneth Winston designs to see if they could still change my dress to ivory/ivory but that I had to be sure. I tried my original dress back on, in the champagne/ivory, and in that moment I just KNEW it was still the one. I feel silly that I did all this just to confirm my original decision- but now I am 100% at peace with it. I suggest you keep looking if only to reaffirm your original decision. Hope this helps!

I think your dress is absolutely gorgeous and adding small sleeves or straps like the ones similar to the picture will make it even better.

I think your dress is stunning. I started having regrets as I continued to look at dresses online after purchasing mine. Wondering if this or that might be better. I went back and tried on my dress. I felt beautiful and like I could see myself walking down the aisle in it. I needed to stop looking at other dresses or I would continue to doubt my choice. I’m focusing on remembering how I felt when I had it on.

I agree about the darker colors making it look like the gown is dirty! I haven't tried on any yet but will be look next month and in November. I am just drawn to lace a-line dresses but saw this one and said wow. That's the one even though I haven't tried it on.

My parents are great and are paying for the venue and most of everything else we need so I did not expect them to help pay for my dress either. I will still pay for most of it. I absolutely love Maggie Sottero/Rebecca Ingram dresses and I do not picture myself in another designers dress on my day. That dress looks great on you but if you aren't in love with it then you can totally look at other dresses. That's perfectly ok too. I thought I would end up in a lace dress but I found a dress from her new collection that was different from others I looked at and absolutely loved it. It's not in stores yet so I can't wait to try it on. I am not making any decisions until I try that one on because I don't want to be stuck thinking did I pick the right one?

Thanks! I really am going for the romantic feel for the wedding and that’s why I loved the dress so much. I think it’s just straight up fear of missing out on something “better” and just trying on more dresses

I love the look of off the shoulder! Were you concerned with how they’d turn out before they were done?

Focus on what you want the straps to look like, and when they go to put them on, if you don’t like it, let the seamstress know and see if they can do it how you envisioned it.

It looks beautiful on you!!! I think it suits you just perfectly and the sleeves look amazing and complement it so well. Also, I wouldn't worry about the color. My dress was ivory over "moscato," which was like a blushy champagne, and in most of the pro pictures it pretty much looks ivory, particularly in the sunny outdoor pictures. I love ivory over colored linings because it makes lace patterns pop so much more than ivory over ivory.

Honestly, I suffered a little dress regret too and wondered sometimes if another dress would have been better/prettier, but what really helped quell that was a) NOT looking at other dresses, and b) putting the dress back on so I could feel that joy again that I felt in it when I tried it on for the first time. I'm so glad I didn't end up changing my dress because I felt like the most beautiful woman in the world on my wedding day.
