The Dress - Do I wear it twice??

We are having an intimate destination wedding (immediate family only), followed by a reception in my hometown 2 weeks later for 150 guests. I went with a simple, flowy dress, great for the beach, and could work for the reception. (Reception will be at a country club.) Should I wear it again because people will want to see "the dress"? Or should it only be worn once, and should I get a fun white cocktail dress for the reception? (That's the direction I'm leaning, but just not sure!) Another idea being tossed around is to alter the dress after the wedding, making it into a shorter, flowy party dress for the reception... is that too risky? What if it doesn't turn out? Some have suggested wearing the dress and changing halfway through the night - I don't think I want to do that. I do plan to have a few photos/canvas prints of the wedding day to display at the reception. I'd love to hear your opinions!

Your dress is gorgeous!! Maybe take a look around and see if you fall in love with a cocktail dress. If not, stick with this one. I agree with the other girls - it's a great excuse to wear it twice and there are so many ways to change up your hairstyle, shoes and accessories. You can do a whole different look with the same dress.

I've been to two post DW receptions, and at both of them, the bride wore her gown. I don't see any problem with it whatsoever. By the way, the gown is just beautiful -- perfect for both places.

Thanks for the advice, all! Gabrielle, that's probably what I'll do... keep an eye out for a cocktail dress I love, and if nothing jumps out at me, I'll wear my dress again! Thanks so much everyone!

I bough separates and fully intend to wear mine again. We are doing a wedding in St Lucia followed by parties in my hometown and then his. My plan is to wear the skirt with a jean jacket or sweater for my party, and the corset top with a pair of jeans and nice heels for his party. I love that I am reusing something that most people only get to wear once! But it is location appropriate in each case. In your case, I also think your dress suits both venues. If you had something more overstated and formal I might have a different opinion but I do think your dress is appropriate for a country club - regardless of whether you wore it to a wedding first!
