the bra-less bride: help!

Alicia, on October 6, 2014 at 8:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'll open by saying that going anywhere but directly to bed bra-less is simply not an option for me. I'm petite but I am busty and always imagined I would have a wedding gown that had straps- probably a v-neck- so I could wear a bra and feel comfortable. Well, I went and bought a strapless dress and now I'm stressed. At the fitting it was tight enough that I definitely didn't feel I needed any extra support (and wouldn't have had room for a bra-layer anyway!). But I would still like something to ...perk them up for shapes sake. I don't just want them to be mashed into the dress. I know there are lots of crazy things out there- any tips or experience with flattering, non-bra options?

I tried mine on with a bra just to make the seamstress happy, but it's an empire waist, and even with my F cup boobs, it hangs just fine without one. I'm going to make that decision on my wedding day.

I had the same problem. First I tried a strapless bra and hated it (pushed everything up TOO much), then a corset and that didn't work (didn't fit under the dress right and added weight to me instead of sucking me in), and now I'm going bra - less on my seamstress's advice. My dress is a corset back so when I tie it up tight I feel good about it BUT I did have a cute double strap added so I'm not pulling it up all night. Maybe consider adding a cute strap for security?

I was thinking about that! I'll have lots of extra material when the dress is hemmed, so that would work. I'm not sure how a strap will look on a sweetheart neckline but I think I'd just end up feeling more comfortable that way- and avoid the constant pull-up! What sort of neckline is your dress?

I love straps on wedding dresses, and you could absolutely add straps to a sweetheart neckline. I attached a few pictures of examples that I think would look nice.

You may also want to talk to your seamstress about building in a bra or even just cups into the dress, so it isn't another layer per se, but just part of the dress. This is something I did for my own wedding for better shape and have had many clients opt for this option as well.

I second adding cups - best of both worlds if you don't need the support but just want the push up.

Adding cups rocks. I'm so excited to go braless in public for a day.

I have 34DDD and my seamstress added cups into my dress so that I didn't have to wear one. They were lifted and pretty without being cumbersome or up to my chin. The cups also helped keep my dress up and I didn't have to worry about falling out. Sitting pushed them up more but it wasn't that bad. I've attached two pics so you can see.

Wow- yeah that would be perfect. Keep the dress where it belongs, and so I won't be yanking it up all night but also not mashing the girls down. Thanks ladies! And thanks for the pics @Melissa!
