The after party in the dress?

Tianna, on September 25, 2018 at 2:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31
Our Wedding is ending early at 10pm because it’s an outdoor venue and you know... sound ordinance laws... so we are holding somewhat of an after party at the bar at our hotel. Now, I’m not sure what to wear! We will be leaving the venue for the hotel by limo and probably arriving before most people since they’ll be sending us off. So should I go up to the room and take my wedding dress off? If so what should I wear? Another white dress but a casual one? Or is it normal to just stay in my dress? What do you all think?

I think it's entirely up to you. Personally I would be ready to get out of my heavy dress and into something more casual for the after party. You could even make an appearance in your dress and then go change a little ways into the party.

I plan on taking my dress off for the after party while someone is awake to help me get all the buttons undone. I haven’t thought about what to wear but knowing me, probably something casual (jeans or leggings casual) most of my family will likely change into something just as casual too

You will probably be more comfortable in a more casual one but stick with a white one!

My daughter plans to stay in her dress for the after party. She loves it so much I’m not sure if she’ll ever take it off, lol!

Our event, which is also held at a hotel, will be ending around 11 and we also considered continuing on in the hotel bar. If we do you can bet I will still be in my dress. I have considered going to breakfast and church the next morning still in my dress. no I am just kidding but I will be wearing it as long as I can that night.

    Hey Tianna,

I think it depends on the style of dress that it is, and also your personal preference. If you have a full on poofy ballroom gown, then maybe you'd want to change into something more casual, especially if there's going to be continued dancing. However, if it's maybe a flowy, bohemian style dress, you maybe wouldn't want to change out of it, since those are usually extremely comfortable and don't restrict movement. What sort of dress do you have? Smiley smile

Our wedding also ends at 10pm and we will have an after party at our hotel bar also. I am staying in my dress. You only get to wear it for one day and I plan on wearing it as long as I can.

I like the idea of changing into a 2nd dress in between venues. Besides....who doesnt love an excuse to shop for and buy a 2nd dress!? We are eloping, but Ill be wearing a big dress for our ceremony. After we are done with our photos, I will change into the dress below so we can go out for a nice dinner together.

For our afterparty I went up to the room to change and when I put my hand on the zipper I couldn't do it! I had spent so much on that dress and I loved it and I never am going to wear it again so I went back down to the party still in it. When the hotel bar closed and we moved the after party to a friend's room then I finally changed into a comfy dress. Nothing special just something from Old Navy.

What ever you prefer, I plan to change out of my dress into another dress that's a bit more casual. Find another white dress just more comfortable.

We did the same thing and I stayed in my dress all night for a few reasons: A. I LOVE my dress and never wanted to take it off B. I knew if I went up to the room I'd have to force myself to leave again C. My dress has a corset back and it was special having H help me out of it at the very end of the night and then having our first night together as a married couple.

Not intentional, but another perk of staying in my dress was that the other people in the hotel bar bought us drinks all night lol.

I think I'll WANT to stay in my dress so I could be over the top on my wedding and let everyone see me in my dress. In reality, I'll probably want that heavy thing OFF haha

We're doing something similar (wedding ends at 10, going to bars after) and I am totally staying in my dress! I love my dress so much, I'm going to get as much mileage out of it as I can. And I'm going to milk it and be the bride for as long as I can (free drinks anyone?). It'll also just be fun to be out with everyone in their wedding attire, I'm actually really excited for it.
