My boyfriend of 5 years & I recently got engaged and are starting our wedding planning. We want a Fall Wedding, but I work in politics, so anything before 11/3/20 is off the table. We also don't really want to wait TWO years for Fall 2021. How do people feel about Thanksgiving Weekend? I know...

I know some people have things going on that weekend, but with a years notice is it enough? Also, I know travel is hectic that week, but we have a lot of friends that have moved out of state, so they're likely to be home for the holiday already, which would save them a plane ticket.

Is it a horrible idea, or decent option?

I, personally, wouldn’t do this or attend a wedding around a big holiday. Even knowing a year in advance, I’m not going to ditch the family I only see twice a year for a wedding. I go to five Thanksgivings each year and couldn’t imagine letting my whole family down.

Could you do an early fall wedding like early September?

I think it would be fine. I would just check with those who are most important to be there, such as any immediate family and besties, to make sure they can make it.

I am getting married this Thanksgiving weekend. 11/30/19 and I have had a lot people able to travel for it. People from Illinois to Kansas. I have yet to get a decline. I think it is because they can make it a long weekend.

I’m getting married the weekend after Thanksgiving this year, and so far no one said they couldn’t come because of the holiday weekend. So I don’t see an issue.

Sounds great to me. Some may RSVP no, but that's a risk for out of towners no matter what!

I would go to a Thanksgiving weekend wedding! Why not? One years notice is plenty of time for people to make their plans.

We just got married over labor day weekend with only 5 1/2 months notice and we had 200+ people in attendance. If people want to be there they will be Smiley smile

My soon-to-be stepson is getting married this coming Thanksgiving weekend. I think it can be great if people are in town for the holiday anyway. I think it's a really good option.

I would think the weekend before would be ideal because it would give people a chance to come home for a full week instead of rushing. Shopping and decorating the weekend of Thanksgiving can fill up the entire weekend. You might also want to consider future wedding anniversary trips on whether you would prefer to go places the week before Thanksgiving and take a long holiday. Prices go up on Thanksgiving so hoping to find a good discount on any future anniversary trips will be slim.

I think its fine! As long as it isn't Thursday! For our family, we obviously have our traditions and shop a little Friday but come the weekend I'm usually decorating for Christmas or relaxing around the house. I'd totally go to a Saturday wedding!

We are getting married this thanksgiving weekend! It actually worked out perfect because out of town family will be coming home for the holiday and staying for the wedding. Next week is going to be a blur as FH and I are hosting thanksgiving dinner (his favorite holiday) and then getting married on Saturday! 10 more days!

I’m getting married next weekend which is Thanksgiving weekend, I didn’t have any issues come up that people said they couldn’t for that reason. They had other reasons they couldn’t come but that’s ok. I wanted a small intimate wedding anyways. But I have a total of 22 guest and 3 kids coming.

We’re doing the weekend before thanksgiving and people still aren’t coming. We’ve been engaged for 19+ months.
