After months and months of planning and looking for venues I decided to book a venue that I like but they giving me a very good deal for thanksgiving weekend. What do u guys think of a thanksgiving weekend wedding, is it a good or bad idea? I mean it is 2 days after.

I wouldnt go to a wedding on Thanksgiving. However i would consider it if its on a saturday that weekend if im in town. But many times people go away for the holiday too.

My friend is having her wedding ON Easter Sunday. She is doing it mostly to save money. I think she is crazy and will get a lot of declines, but she thinks people will be ok with giving up their holiday for her wedding. Different people have different perspectives on this.

Personally I think the weekend after Thanksgiving is fine, but I think people who have to travel will be less likely to attend. So it depends on your guests.

I would be a decline. Travel is usually expensive around Thanksgiving and FH and I make it a habit to be out of the country for Thanksgiving/Black Friday.

I'm doing the week before thanksgiving and I'm still expecting a lot of declines. Already got a few that are planning on traveling for thanksgiving so they won't be able to make it for the wedding.

Her post says "Thanksgiving weekend" so to me that doesn't mean ON Thanksgiving. OP - can you clarify which day?

Also, are you in the US or Canada? From living in both countries, I can tell you that Thanksgiving is a much bigger deal in the US than in Canada.

Why not? i think it would be fun but depending on where you live it could cause any issues if you have hunters in your family... but I live in Wisconsin.. so lol All the guys in my family leave for two weeks for hunting and so we can never plan around it... But I feel like if you're having a good deal on a venue and everything shoot for it.

Family and Friends who actually love and care about you two will not care when the wedding is. I hate when people comment, well if I was invited I wouldn't go... Well they aren't family and family understands and honestly the only big dates around Thanksgiving is that actual Thursday and if people shop on Friday. So personally I think you're fine!

We have shared our anniversary with NYE for 8 years!! It makes celebrating very difficult. Go with another if you can.

We do TG weddings every year, and the rate of declines is not significantly different than any other time of they year.

The weekend after the holiday is just as bad, as people are flying home. It's so expensive for your guests

How many out of town guests are there? If there aren't many, then it might work!

Ummm the weekend after Thanksgiving is just another weekend - it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving.

We all just wasted our time commenting about a Thanksgiving weekend wedding for nothing lmfao.

eta: the Saturday after Thanksgiving is December 2nd. So you're having a December 2nd wedding.............

I'm not sure I would want to attend a wedding around a major holiday like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or NYE. It can be much more expensive to travel, hotels are more expensive, traffic is worse, etc etc etc.

    I would re-consider.

I'm getting married the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year. We're very early in the RSVP process, but we've actually received more verbal confirmations than we expected. We initially thought the holiday would scare guests away but it seems to be having the opposite effect. We'll know for sure when the actual RSVPs start rolling in.

Her original post said "Thanksgiving weekend" so I never assumed it was Thanksgiving day. However, people who travel usually stay the whole weekend with family, so it's still technically a "holiday weekend".

Wow! I didn't expect the declines for not having the wedding on the Saturday after Thanksgiving! I think it's a great idea because you family will already be in town for Thanksgiving!!! And friends could spend time with their family and attend your wedding.........
