Thanks, But no Thanks

What's some of the worst/weirdest suggestions you've been given regarding wedding planning?

- Mine would be FH thinking his groomsmen didn't need gifts (luckily I talked him into giving them something!)

- FH didn't want to feed anyone at our rehearsal dinner and said, instead of providing drinks, they could use the water fountain (I told him we had to provide a meal and drinks)

- My mom suggesting a potluck (food safety issues there so I shut that down really fast!)

My grandmother wanted me to have my wedding 3 hours from home so that she didn't have to drive in 2 weekends in a row.... Yeah.

My dad wanted to wear jeans and a t-shirt to walk me down the isle (That's just who he is)

My brother refused to wear a tux unless he could pick the color (And then picked a color that is nowhere near the colors I gave him as options)

-My step mom trying to buy my dress and bouquets off of Wish. She also asked me if I wanted a tiara. I reminded her I wasn't going to prom and no thanks.

-My little niece making herself part of the wedding party and insisting she was going to wear a bright pink suit.

-My mom suggesting to do the ceremony in a park with the minster from my childhood and just "show up." Need a little more planning than that mom lol.

    - FH wanting to use Cannon in D as part of the ceremony music. It's just so over used. We'll probably use it anyway.

I am adding buttons to my dress in replace of the zipper.. My mother stated she could do it and said she believe she could "sew them on to velcro and then overlay the zipper"... kid. you. not.

My MIL kept telling us about these Ukrainian traditions we needed to do. I asked H if he would be offended if we skipped some of them and his response was "Oh, be offended about these things I had no idea existed until 5 minutes ago? No....the ukrainian ceremony is enough. We can have an american reception."

My grandma also made all sorts of comments about the date (it was originally the same weekend as a cousins graduation and we moved it up a week for other reasons) but then it turned into "but your sisters still in school!" *eyeroll*

A former co-worker had it stuck in her mind that I needed Mirrors with my Centerpieces.

What it really amounted to was, “You should just pay me to decorate for you”.

Suffice it to say that she was removed from the “to be invited” list.

Fi suggested we just order Shakeys pizza to feed our guest, also suggested we should only provide water.... eeeek

We are having an ice cream truck instead of favors and he said we already providing food, why do we offer ice cream also.

My co-worker suggested having family set up the morning off instead of hiring a DOC... smh... I think NOT

My well meaning mom’s ideas to save money despite knowing the formality and theme of our wedding.

Just order plain cakes from Walmart and stack/decorate them yourself

No one needs a full meal, just get appetizers from Walmart’s deli

You don’t need real tablecloths, Dollar Tree sells plastic/paper ones

I’ve ended up having to lie about how much I’ve spent because she would go “that’s lovely but you could’ve gotten it cheaper/found something else” like I am the coupon QUEEN, I stack coupons and sales like it’s my job. Nope still could’ve found it cheaper. No thanks. I got a bakery tiered cake, a catered meal and linens for a good price.

FH suggested I do the table decor before pictures. In my wedding dress. Because reasons.

My Dad suggested we get married IN the water at my beach wedding. And risk ruining my dress? No chance.

FILs have asked us to invite five couples (this is a 30 people or less wedding) for distant relatives who surely won’t come but might send us gifts, since FILs sent gifts to their kids when they got married. Impossibly gift grabby and I hate it but I can’t persuade FH to stop it. It’s a sore point in our planning together. It’s the ONLY thing FILs have taken an interest in during the entire wedding process.

I am not going to lie, I thought about this but figured it would cost way to much to shut the bowling alley down on a Saturday night.... We love activities and games so it could have worked for us.

All we want to do at our wedding is dance... its like the thing we are looking forward to the most aside from being married..

Fiance has suggested more than once to just make our own play list and skip a dj. I have said like 80 times that there is no way we would be able to pull that off and I have no idea how to keep people dancing all night and that neither of us will want the stress.

I plan on having my wedding at 3:00 or 4:00 (haven't decided yet) so that dinner can be served around 5:00 or 6:00. My dad said "just have the wedding at 2 so your grandma can stay an hour or two and drive home before it starts getting dark" Smiley ups

I explained to him that I wanted to serve a meal instead of appetizers and I wasn't going to do that super early. Also said "If she stays an hour at the wedding, she's literally only going to be there for the ceremony. I'll buy her a hotel room so she can just stay in town and drive back the next morning."

The biggest thanks but no thanks was my friend who went dress shopping with me. She kept trying to get me to like a bunch of dresses that were the exact opposite of what I wanted. Her favorite was a strapless (NO!) ivory (NO!! It was yellowish) tulle (She got one right) that barely brushed my feet (I'm 6'). It was also over budget. She actually offered to pay the additional but I didn't even like the dress. I ordered the dress I had my heart set on online and it was well under budget so yay!!!
