Thank you timeline

Amy "Been here too long" W., on June 19, 2010 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I attended a wedding three weeks ago and still haven't received a thank you card. They cashed my check the next day, so I know they got my gift. I don't want to mess this up when it's my turn to send them out so.....

What is considered norm for sending out thank yous?

All the magazines & websites I've used, their checklist says 6-8 weeks after returning from your honeymoon.

I wouldn't do them anything sooner than 3 weeks after the honeymoon. 3-6 weeks would seem normal... 8 seems a little late. Any less than 3 weeks because of the gifts like blenders and stuff; its kinda hard to believe that right after your honeymoon you used that crockpot (and I wouldn't think "I haven't used your gift but it looks nice" would be a good thank you) but 3-6 weeks later its a little more believable.

I always suggest sending thank you cards within 3 months of the wedding. However, some will say that it's ok to send them out anytime within the first year of marriage. I design custom thank you cards that include the couple's wedding photos, therefore it can often take a little while for the couple to get their photos from the photographer. Just something to keep in mind.

My most on the ball bride ordered her thank you's a week after the honeymoon and the latest one ordered on the one year anniversary.

We will be doing them about a month after the honeymoon b/c we have to wait on our photos from the photographer so we can use them to make a little wedding collage on our Thank You cards.

I plan to pre-address all the envelopes before the wedding and stamp them. As soon as finals are over, I will spend time getting them done. I am really lucky that I will only need to do about 25 so it shouldn't take long. Have FS do some too! When my brother got married, I got my thank you note from him, it was nice since I didn't really know his wife well. They live in Chicago and I am in PA so it was nice getting something from him saying they enjoyed my gift.
