You should thank her just like you would for any other grift and not mention that it’s a duplicate.

I think you’re overthinking this. Thank them for the gift. Keep it. And go buy the sheets yourself. Or, try going to the store without the receipt and see if they’ll let you exchange for the set that includes the sheet (including you pay the different is there is one). Don’t expect them to go out of their way to exchange, they gave the gift they wanted to give and thought you’d enjoy. A spare bed set is hugely helpful on laundry day. 😁

Just thank her for the gift, don’t tell her it was a duplicate or she’ll feel bad!


Have you tried to return it? In my experience if the item is on your registry you can return it, you don’t need a receipt.

Why not ask your Aunt for one and take hers back?

If it came from the registry, you shouldn’t need a physical receipt as the store has receipt of purchase in their system. Doesn’t matter which set you exchange.


Just write the thank you card for the bed set, giver doesn’t have to know that the one you use came from someone else.
