I was just married this Saturday and I’m starting to think about thank you cards for all of our gifts (as I have not so much as opened the card box yet)

I want to send one of our wedding photos with the thank you’s but it might be as long as 6-8 weeks before I get my professional photos back.

I think it’s a little rude to start cashing checks without sending thank you cards out soon after and I know it’s also wrong to wait so long to cash checks so that people don’t forget they wrote them and have it mess up their account balance.

Also, of the tons of pictures our friends and family took apparently no one took photos of just my husband and I so that wouldn’t really work either.

So do I just wait to send the thank you’s until the minute I get my photos back or just send the thank you’s without the photo?

I agree with PP, ask for a sneak preview of a few photos from your photographer to make the card. I don't think cashing the checks and sending a thank you need to be in a particular order. I would be really irritated about a late cashed check but not concerned about a late card, because I would assume the couple was busy/ waiting for photos/ etc.

Do not wait for the photos. A thank-you note should go out within two weeks of receipt of a gift, sooner if possible. People need to know that their gifts were received and appreciated right away. After six weeks or more of silence, I would have given up on the thank-you note and the recipient of the gift and the relationship.

At least you are sending thank yous! I always think a photo is sweet too. I've been to 2 weddings recently, one where they got married in July and sent Thank you/Christmas cards in December which didn't get to us because mail during the holidays sucks so we didn't actually receive a thank you until March. The other wedding was just this past December and we are still waiting on a thank you card.

Besides maybe your parents no one is going to care about getting a wedding photo. Just send out generic thank you cards and then send a holiday card with a wedding photo if that is important to you.

I would reach out to your photographer and see if they can send you photos to send out with the thank you cards a little early. If they can not I would just send the thank you cards without the pictures and just send them after you get them.
