Tented Reception - multiple tents?

Felicia, on July 9, 2019 at 8:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
My fiancé and I are getting married on a lake in his backyard and are wanting to do a tented dinner, but we are getting quoted over $6,000 for the tent and we really don't want to spend that much on a tent. We are thinking of purchasing 10-15 10x30 tents and putting them together as it's going to save us a ton of money. My only concern is that it will look stupid this way...help!!

The way it would look is not necessarily where the problem is. If there is any rain, the water will drain right in between each and every tent, dripping into your guest area. I would not do this.

Wow $6,000 is ridiculous for a tent. We rent large tents all the time for family parties and they aren’t that bad. I’m sure you need s bigger one but I’ve tented pretty big ones. Honestly I don’t think putting s bunch of little ones together will look good. You will have stakes and poles everywhere. I would keep shopping around or see if you can find a big one for sale somewhere that is cheaper.

Agree with this. Also aesthetically I think it’s going to look really odd to have a thousand poles all throughout your reception space.

Hey Felicia! Congratulations on your engagement! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

As the pps mentioned, having multiple tents may seem like the cheaper option but there is a lot to consider that you may not have thought about. With all of the tent poles around your reception area, it runs the risk of guests tripping, especially as it gets dark or if they are wearing high heels. Tent rental companies will also set up your tent and have a floor and electricity to install in it. If you were to do this all DIY, I think you would run into a lot of hidden costs that you did not consider.

Have you shopped around for a tent rental company? You should be able to find a more competitive price that you are happier with. A great place to start would be the WeddingWire Event Rentals vendor search.

    Hi Felicia!

This sounds like a gorgeous setting!

How many vendors have you gotten a quote from? As Sinead mentioned, if you shop around you may find someone which comes within budget! There are a ton of tents rental companies listed in the WeddingWire local vendor directory - Wedding Rentals.

How many guests do you need to fit in the tent? What size tent were you quoted for?

I’m in the same boat, got quoted a ridiculous price for a tent, so we are going to buy multiple tents and put them up. It might look a little odd but we just can’t afford to spend $8000 on a tent. We do have a backup plan if it rains, because there is a large pole barn. I would rather not have it in the pole barn so I’m just hoping it doesn’t rain. 🤞🏼🙏🏼
