Teachers and Honeymoons....

Lauren , on June 18, 2013 at 7:22 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

I am a Teacher getting married in October *crazy I know* but we love that time of year. If you are a Teacher what did you do for your honeymoon? I think we might delay it until June. Thoughts?

How about during Christmas vacation. Here teachers get 2 weeks off, or during spring break?

I'm a teacher (although was unemployed this past school year), and we're taking our honeymoon two days after our November wedding whether I have a job or not. If I end up with a job, we might push it back a few days and take advantage of Thanksgiving Break, but otherwise, the kids are just going to have to deal with having a sub. They'll understand when they're older Smiley smile

I second @Tiffany though - why not go somewhere on Xmas/Winter vacation?

I'm a teacher but an online teacher so my schedule is a little different because I teach kids in China year round but I already talked to the company about it and they've okayed it. You could just see how many personal days you're allowed and see if it gets approved.

I am getting married on Labor Day weekend so I will either take advantage of Monday off and then take personal days Tuesdays-Friday. We thought about Thanksgiving originally but FSIL set her wedding date for Black Friday...boo!

The delayed honeymoon feels like it doesn't serve the purpose of a honeymoon IMO, which is to decompress after the wedding and have an awesome beginning to your married life. Fiance and I are both college teachers...we are marrying July 5 and honeymooning July 6-25...we won't go back to work until August 26 and have been off since May 10...putting our wedding in the middle of summer seemed the best way to go (for us personally).

We got married in the summer and honeymooned over spring break. I wanted to go in December, but H didn't have enough vacation days then.

I'm with Stacy about having the HM right after the wedding. I feel like going on the HM within a month of the wedding makes it really feel like a HM and it's about starting your life together and getting away from all of the other distractions. I totally understand why people want to push them back but I feel like if you wait too long it's just basically a random vacation vs a HM.

PS - Your date is my parents' anniversary :-)

I teach and always figured a summer wedding would be our reality. I was at a new school teaching a new subject the year leading up to the wedding, and it was crazy stressful. There's just no way I could have done a wedding during the school year. We timed ours for late July and took the honeymoon about a week after the wedding. Late July gave me about 5 weeks to take care of all the details I didn't accomplish during the school year. The delay in the HM was due to DH's work.

I agree w/ others about doing the HM close to the wedding. Some teachers I've known who married during the school year did a mini-moon and then did the big HM during winter or spring break (but remember that flights cost more at those times for most typical HM destinations).

I'm a teacher and we got married in June so that I could take HM and not have to take time off. I wouldn't wait until summer. You get days off, use them. For me, I needed the time to relax after the wedding!

I am not a teacher but i remember quite a few of my teachers in school getting married during the school year. They would always get married on a Saturday, take a short honeymoon, and they would come back on Tuesday. If they got married during the school year, they would usually take the following monday off.

I have always wanted a fall wedding and have it planned for September 2014. In Pennsylvania teaching jobs are extremely hard to find so I am subbing(which I love) and if I get a job I will just explain to them that I am getting married and honeymooning right after the wedding. I have to work around my FH schedule as a steel mill worker and he only gets 3 weeks vacation which has to be planned out more strategically than mine does.

FH is a music teacher. Our wedding is November 30. We're going to stay at a resort for a couple nights over his Christmas break, but our honeymoon won't be until the summer of 2014. (which pretty much makes it a random vacation, but it is what it is LOL)

Between coordinating my kids' schedules, working full-time, selling a house, buying a house, and wedding planning, I'm pretty sure planning (and paying for) a honeymoon would send me over the edge at this point.

My fiance is a teacher and we're getting married a week before mid-winter break. We didn't want to have to postpone the honeymoon so we planned the wedding date according to his schedule.

Thanks everyone! We had picked our date before I had the job. And jobs are so hard to come by here in NJ for teaching! I spoke with the principal and he is okay with me taking a week off ( I just have to take deduct days) but you only get married once! We are going to Flordia fromSaturday to Wednesday. ( I will be taking Thursday before the wedding and obviously friday the day of the wedding) So it will give us 5 days away then taking a big trip to Italy in June!
