Tea lights lasting through the ceremony?

Melody , on September 20, 2016 at 3:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 32

So I was looking at tea lights at ikea today and noticed they say they burn for 4 hours. Our reception is exactly 4 hours long. Would this work then? Or should i spring for longer burning ones? My DOC and her assistant could light them directly before the reception. Also I currently look like a crazy person inside of ikea haha

I think it would be fine. We bought 6 hour long ones at hobby lobby. They were pretty cheap.

Eta: we tested one out and it lasted for over 7 hours so yours might be the same way

Ikea has the 4 hour ones for $3.50 for 100. Which is why I asked. Would it be weird if they started to go out toward the last 20ish-30 min of the night

If everyone is up dancing they won't even notice. I would buy it and test one out.

I got 7 hour tea lights very cheap from candles4less.com so of course as soon as they came in I lit one to test out. I blew it out after 7 hours.

ETA: I just pulled up my email from when I ordered them and 100 were $17.99

I love the Ikea ones! I think you should be good... I usually get at least 4 hours out of them, typically in the 4-5 hour range. And like pp have mentioned, I doubt people will really notice (or care at that point) if they do start to go out towards the end.

Unless the longer burn ones are a decent price, but $3.50 for 100 is a great deal!

I ordered 10 hour votive candles from quick candles or candles4less - I ordered things from both and can't remember which - but the price was very reasonable - around $25 for 144. I wanted to make sure they would burn long enough - but they do sell them in much smaller amounts.

It wouldn't be weird if they start to go out at the end of the night. By then, it'll only be the last few party-hard guests. So they won't be concerned about the candles having burned out. They'll still be partying it up until someone kicks them out.

I just got a 72-pack of 10-hour votives and holders from yummicandles for about $45 incl shipping. I wouldn't be concerned about candles burning out, they really just have to go from the start of reception through to cake, about 2 hours. Once the dancing starts nobody will notice them!

Like Leah stated, I would look for longer lasting ones.

I'd be more comfortable with long burning ones. was at a bridal shower recently and they didn't even last two hours

Because our venue has so many cars, so much old machinery, and the exits are a bit far from our reception area, we were hesitant about real-burning candles. I ended up getting the flickering fake votives. Bought a few extra packs of them as testers and so far so good!

@annelore is your venue somewhere untraditional? Sounds interesting.

Personally I'd go for the longer lasting ones...but I really want them for the effect at night because our venue has floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides so I think it'll be really pretty once it's dark out...(which in June is like...8-9 at night)

I wouldn't want to worry about having to light them in 5 min before the reception starts and then still worry about them not lasting!

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but you could always find the battery operated votives. If you get decent ones they give off some pretty decent light, granted nothing is the same as an actual candle. At least you wouldn't have to worry about lighting them. Just an idea though.

You don't look like a crazy person, we just know you're a bride or planning a wedding haha. :-) lots of people get our tea lights - I would if I hadn't gotten pillar candles! I wouldn't worry about them dying, especially because if they honestly go out you have a ton more and your coordinator could go change a few out.

I'm using those too as my centerpieces, but we got flameless candles instead.

We are getting LED tea lights for this reason.

I have heard that if you put them in the freezer beforehand they burn longer but idk how true that is.
