Tattooed Brides

Chrysta, on September 8, 2020 at 11:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 36

I’ve seen a lot of posts here on WW of brides who have felt pressured by their families to cover their tattoos on their wedding days. As a heavily tattooed female, I cannot count the amount of times I’ve heard people say “How is that going to look in a wedding dress?!” “How are you going to hide that when you get married??” “Brides with tattoos look trashy”. (Insert my eye roll here) So I wanted to start a positive thread that actually CELEBRATES tattoos in wedding!
How many of you brides & grooms proudly showed off (or plan to show off) your tattoos on your wedding day?? Or maybe you had bridesmaids/groomsmen that did? If so, drop a picture of your tattooed brides, grooms, wedding party, etc.! Tattooed Brides 1

    Me!

my mom was livid about it because the entire time i was engaged she wanted me to cover it up. and i was planning to because i didn't want to hear her nagging and it was like one of those battles i did not want to drag on or try fighting but at the end of the day i realized it's my day and it's who i am and she's not going to tell me how to look on my day.

Neither my FH nor I have tattoos. We are very rare millennials, lol. I hardly meet anyone under 35 without a tattoo unless I travel outside the US.

My arm and back tattoos will be visible in both my dresses (ceremony/reception dress and after party dress) at my wedding. My groom will be wearing a suit, so his tattoos will not be visible during the ceremony, but he will definitely be taking off the jacket and rolling up his sleeves for the reception. My maid of honor and man of honor are also heavily tattooed, and both will be proudly displaying their tattoos during our ceremony. I don’t have any pictures of me in my dress yet, otherwise I would drop a picture of it.

Yes!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Of course, there is nothing that says just because you have tattoos that you have to show them on your wedding day- but I love when brides stand up for themselves when they WANT to show them! I honestly cannot believe it’s the year 2020 and people are still being pressured into covering tattoos on THEIR OWN big day! We really need to put an end to the idea that brides need to look pure and virginal on their wedding days 🤦🏼‍♀️

I myself have multiple tattoos that will be seen. I felt I should have found a dress that covers them. But at one of my dress fittings I asked my mom what I should do, like cover them with makeup or have sleeves added to the dress. And mind you she has no tattoos and doesn't exactly like them. And she says to me, those tattoos are part of who you are. You love them so show them off. You look beautiful in that dress you chose. So I say to any bride with tattoos. Show them off girl. Dont worry about what other people think. And if they have a problem with it, oh well.

I don't have any tattoos yet, I was planning on getting my first one in April, but covid delayed it. I want to get a sunflower on my arm because they are my favorite (and my wedding flower!) and they make me happy! I may be going on a double tattoo date next month on Halloween with my FH and I's best friend and his girlfriend, and if that ends up happening then I'm not planning on covering it at all! My family would be VERY disappointed (tattoos are a sin in their religion, that I've since left) but it's my body and my wedding and if it makes me happy then so what! Smiley laugh

Absolutely!! Both of my bridesmaids have nose piercings and tattoos and they were like "do you want me to get it removed/covered for your day?? And I was like what the heck why would I ask you to change who you are just so everyone looks "the same?"

Aww I love this!! I think a lot of moms have problems with tattoos, but it’s so great to see them support their children regardless! ❤️

I love that your 1st tattoo will be so meaningful! Now, whenever you look at it, you can be reminded of such a happy day in your life! And bonus: your tattoo will actually match your wedding theme!!

I have a few visible tattoos that I won't cover for anyone no matter who they are. No one has any right to pressure you to do anything with your body you are not comfortable with, including your wedding day because they are part of you.

Take a look at offbeatbride.com where there are countless brides who didn't cover up tats and look just as stunning.

I have one larger tattoo on my calf...most people start small, but I was like “go big or go home” 😂

My dresses are all floor length so there will be no showing off this beauty. I wish I had a beautiful sleeve tattoo like the one you’ve shown!

I’ll have one tattoo showing, which is a pretty big inner arm tattoo. My dad’s not thrilled but oh well. I also have some tattooed bridesmaids

I love my tattoos. I told myself and people it’s permanent on my body. If I didn’t want to show them on my wedding day, why would I have them on my body period!

I'm definitely showing off my tatts. I have one on my wrist, forearm and upper arm. Those will be the most exposed in my dress. I have a back tatt as well but the sheer will sort of cover it. Like you'll be able to tell I have one but won't really be able to make it out. No one in my family ever thought about bringing up covering it. I have one bridesmaid (that I know for sure) that will have a tatt showing. I'm all for it.

I’ve only got one tattoo, but it means a lot to me because it’s a tattoo in memory of my grandfather who passed away in 2005 and I was extremely close to him. I actually would not try on dresses with sleeves because it was important to me that the tattoo be showing. My mom, cousin and aunt all got tattoos for him on the same day too, so they obviously aren’t giving me a hard time. But I really wanted it to be showing because it makes me feel like he’s there in spirit if my little penguin is out and showing.

I don't have any, but I have seen beautiful pictures of brides showing off their tattoos. I will say I saw one bride that wore a dress that covered half of her tattoo, a large butterfly on her back, so you could only see the top half of the wings. I sort of think it would have been nice if she could have found a dress that framed the tattoo or otherwise fit in with it, like maybe a sheer back, so that it felt integrated with the dress instead of like an afterthought.
