Talking about engagement rings and wedding bands... Help!

Sammy, on May 8, 2021 at 9:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello brides to be!

We know we love talking about engagement rings and wedding bands and I actually need a little bit of help deciding.

This is my engagement ring and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It has a huge sentimental value added to the engagement since it was the ring my FH’s dad gave my FMIL when my fiancé was born.

Talking about engagement rings and wedding bands... Help! 1

My issue comes when thinking about the wedding band.

Ideally, I’d like to wear both rings, but finding a band that matches the style of the e ring has been a true challenge.

We currently have 3 possible options...

Option 1:

I really like the design of this band and the “spark” that adds to the set, but I cannot stand the gap it forms. Is it just my OCD or is it a valid point?

Option 2:

Less ideal option since I’d not be able to wear both, but my FH and I really like this band, plus we’d be matching each other.

Option 3:

Find a jeweler to create a custom band to match the e ring. Any of you have experience with this? I’m afraid that going this route would take a big part of our budget, but I have no idea.

I found this band that I believe would fit just fine, but the store only does up to 14k and my FH is against anything below 18k, so buying this one from them is not an option... Talking about engagement rings and wedding bands... Help! 4

Maybe show the picture to the designer to get some inspiration?

I’d love to read your thoughts on this!

I think option 1 will bother *you* because of that gap - it doesn't matter why, if it bothers you, then it's valid. Option 2 - If you want to wear both rings, could you get a thinner plain band and wear them together? (Though you're still going to have a gap, and if that bothers you, then it's not a good option.) This is the only option you'll be able to wear on its own and it not look "odd" because of the shape of the band. (We just moved house - I haven't had my e-ring on in weeks - because I don't want to mess is up - but my band is plain, so it just looks like I have a ring on, there's no shape to it.) Option 3 - You're right, it may be cost prohibitive (and if they don't fit perfectly you may end up with gaps still/again); but with your ring, this is the option I would probably go with.

On a side note - your e-ring is beautiful Smiley smile

I think option 3 custom with a local jeweler. The chevron is pretty but very trendy. Your ring is beautiful, they can make something to compliment it well. Local jewelers are usually less expensive for great quality - check out Yelp.

I would also say go for a custom band if the gap from the first choice bothers you. Now that you pointed it out I cannot unsee it so it is not you being crazy OCD at all. Not wearing my sparkly ring would upset me so much I wouldn't even consider number 2 as an option, but that is me.

I also gave a bypass and got the wedding band custom by an independent jeweler. It was either 1500 or 3000, can't rememberTalking about engagement rings and wedding bands... Help! 5

I like option 3 best. Have you considered getting a custom enhancer instead ?

I totally feel what you mean about the gap for #1, but I’m actually digging the way the two rings look together! But I agree that if you think it’ll bother you, #3 is the better option. I’d def shop around and find a couple stores you like that do custom 18k and compare prices. Otherwise, if it’s too cost-prohibitive, I’d go for #1!

If you are not 100% sold on options 1 or 2 I would consider something custom made. I have a solitaire setting, and the band itself is petite so its impossible for a band to lay flush against it, and that drove me nuts. I had seen a picture of a wedding band I liked, but wanted to modify a few things to make it perfect. I went to a local jeweler (they tend to be more reasonable and easier to work with then large chains) and they were able to create exactly what I wanted. You're going to wear this for the rest of your life, you might as well love it. Plus you're engagement ring has such a beautiful meaning!

I personally love Option 1 but if you don’t, you shouldn’t get it! My engagement ring is also a unique shape and we got my wedding band custom designed by the same jeweler that created my engagement ring. The band will cost $1300 if that helps.

I vote the third option. I think you will feel happier with something custom, without the gap!

    Lovely ring, by the way!
