Tahiti Honeymoon

Heather, on August 25, 2012 at 11:19 AM Posted in Honeymoon 2 11

Hey ladies! My fiancé and I are really learning towards going to Tahiti for our honeymoon. Has anyone else been there/plan on going there? Any recommendations - hotels, islands to visit, things to see? Also, we are would really like to stay in one of those over the water bungaloos, if you have been, what do you think of them? I appreciate all the advice. Thanks ladies!

Heather, I have been to the Tahitian islands and have sent couples there on their honeymoon. The islands I have visited are Tahiti, Taha'a, Tikehau, Moorea, Bora Bora. Bora Bora and Moorea are the two most popular islands with Moorea being less expensive if you need to stick to a budget. I definitely recommend staying in an overwater bungalow, at least part of the time. You might consider staying on one island for the first part of your trip, in a garden bungalow, or an ocean view bungalow, then follow with staying at another island in an overwater bungalow. There is a lot to do during the day, with, as expected, a lot of water activities in particular. The nights are a bit quieter. Some of the resorts offer a Polynesian show after dinner. If you'd like to discuss your honeymoon, please contact me. I'd be happy to help with your honeymoon planning.

    Mary

Thanks ladies! Mary M. - have you ever stayed in the over water bungalows? We really want to but they seem so open and not very private. Is it really worth it? Also, in all the pictures of hotels with over water bungalows, it looks like thats all there is to the hotel. Do any of them have restaurants, fitness center, spa, central pool, etc...?

Yes they are worth it I have not had a couple yet regret it spending the additional funds; the restaurants, spa, fitness center etc are all in the main hotel building

My FH and I are going to Bora Bora on our honeymoon. We've looked into it and are going to book it in the next couple months. After looking up the hotels websites and Trip Advisor, I think we're going to stay at the Four Seasons Resort. I'm so excited!! Smiley smile

I haven't been but FBIL has and has strong words about Bora Bora. He says the other islands are better because Bora Bora is just an endless sea of huts. He said there aren't as many fish as the other islands and it's just like Hawaii. He also didn't like the water clarity in Bora Bora.

He travels to a lot of luxury destinations so I respect his opinion. That being said, we are going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon because I didn't want to spend that much time traveling.

Amy B - thanks for the information! We have considered Bora Bora too, but we were having a hard time estimating costs!

My friends are there now. $30 cocktails, $250 lunches. Expect high prices on any island where they have to import goods Smiley smile

Amy B - how long are you going to be there for your $8-$10K?

Jillian-If you're looking for a 7 nt stay on Bora Bora a budget of $8-10K is average when including your flights from LAX and an overwater bungalow somewhere. Now you could opt for a hotel not as exlusive as the Four Seasons and save a bit, but I always give my couples that ballpark when they start the planning process. And then from there you'll have to add on your domestic flights to get to LAX and any food and sightseeing once you are out there. It's definately a once in a lifetime trip for most Smiley winking

Many of the hotels do offer meal plans too and that is another way to save you money versus paying as you go to eat. The poster above is correct in that lunches and dinners can average around $200 for a couple. Some people don't believe that so they choose to bypass the meal plans and then have sticker shock when they arrive. The one thing I would have to disagree with is that the islands of Tahiti are similar to Hawaii. I would not compare the two honestly.
