My fiancé and I are on a tight budget, so we have been planning on having a BBQ buffet catered for our informal wedding next summer. However, most of the BBQ places we like don't include vegetarian entrees, and I have a few vegetarian guests who will be there. I just thought today about the fact that there are Chipotle and Moe's and a few other non-chain Mexican restaurants in the area that cater, those all have the option of a tofu meat alternative to order alongside the meats. My question is has anyone ever been to a wedding with a taco bar? What were thoughts on it? Good/bad? Thanks!

Chipotle was a big hit at my engagement party, so I'd say go for it.

I would also recommend looking into a pasta bar as an inexpensive vegan friendly option. And even a mashed potato bar. I know some people don't like them, but I love pasta and every wedding I've seen with a mashed potato bar has been pretty successful.

This thread reminds me of the bride whose dad was going to cook 200lbs of ground beef the day of the wedding for her taco bar.

I remember that KD! That was shortly after I discovered the forums and she helped get me hooked.

I wouldn't do Chipotle because you can't have queso on your burritos which is disappointing. But Moe's is really good. I would honestly preferred it catered by a local Mexican restaurant though but I also live in Texas and we have bomb ass Mexican food here. (Tex Mex really) If you live in a state that has shitty Mexican options I would do Moe's if not then I would get a Mexican place to do fajitas and tacos.

I freaking love tacos! Our job had chipotle cater own of our lunches for like 45-50 people and it got super messy, the salsa spoons got into the cheese the hard tortillas got crushed to pieces the line moved so freaking slow it was a mess.

I was thinking the same for my reception! Tacos sound great. We're also gonna do a dessert table for later in the night.

I would just make sure that there is enough appetizers and other smaller foods. I agree, tacos on their own are not going to be enough.

Pasta can also be a low budget option, if that is something you are willing to look into. That offers a few more options to your guests. Ultimately, you know your guests the best!

So, my sister got married at this really beautiful garden that was actually part of a Mexican restaurant (California for ya. haha) and so she had fajitas for dinner. There were lots of options and it was so good! She also made sure to have passed appetizers. I remember one of them was a mini chimichanga and I probably ate like 10. Oops. I literally stood and talked to the server just to eat more. I'm not even sorry. They were that good.

Then, each table had salsa and chips to snack on while you waited. I'm not sure if this was really that cost effective, but it was so so yummy and this is the only way I'll support Mexican/Tacos at a wedding now.

We did tacos, but from a local caterer, not a chain restaurant. We only got glowing feedback, and two guests who were at my wedding then chose a taco bar for their weddings! Just make sure you have vegetarian and gluten-free guests covered. We had hard corn, soft corn, flour, steak, chicken, roasted veggies, ground beef, 3 homemade salsas (make sure one is cilantro-free because some people really hate it), the other accoutrement like jalepenos, onions, and we had 3 apps before hand.

A friend of mine had a taco bar! Everyone loved it! I also suggest trying a local chain restaurant though.

My cousin's wedding (of which I was a bridesmaid in) had a high-end taco bar. Lots of options for meat-eaters and vegetarians. I'm a vegetarian myself and was full by the end.

It did help that there were a few sides and salads to compliment the tacos so I would talk to your caterer and see what they have available.
