Hi, I'm looking for honest opinions - I am the Mother of the Bride and my daughter wants to do a taco bar at her wedding because they don't like typical wedding food, i.e., filet mignon, chicken, salmon, etc. We have offered to cover all costs except for the booze and rehearsal dinner which the groom's family will cover. 90% of our guests will be coming in from out-of-town w/a wide variety of ages including many over 60. Chicago is very expensive to stay overnight along w/flight and I would feel embarrassed to serve a taco bar at the wedding. I don't wanna be Momzilla...but...it's just not enough in my opinion plus the food may be too spicy for some guests. I thought about maybe we could step it up by having shrimp/crabmeat as one of the fillings, but I still don't like it considering how many out of town guests we will have!!! HELP!!!! OPINIONS...HONEST PLEASE....BUT BE KIND!!

Maybe suggest doing a dish like chicken for dinner, and then doing a taco bar for a late night snack? All of the older guests will have probably left by then, and the young crowd would really love that!

We did a taco bar at our wedding and it was amazing! Sure, it can be done cheaply- but ours wasn't... Our chef made really unique flavors for the taco bar... Korean BBQ short ribs, Honey Glazed Spiced Chicken, Hawaiian Pork with Chipotle Sauce, homemade guacamole, cabbage slaw, shredded brussel sprouts and squash, portabella mushrooms and asparagus in a garlic tangy sauce, etc... These were just some of the options on our taco bar. Guests absolutely loved it, and so did we! They were able to make their dinner the way that they wanted to and have as much/as little as they wanted. We opted not to do seafood because any type of food bar needs to think about seafood being out too long and making people sick. The taco bar we had really added to the fun of the event. It helped add a bit of a non-traditional, yet still sophisticated twist to the evening and guests are still raving about it. I say do it- but just make sure you have a good chef and that both of you remember it is a wedding... ground beef and bags of shredded cheese won't cut it. Elevate it and you'll never be sorry that you did! Good luck!

I personally love the idea of a taco bar. if it fits their personalities i think they should do it. a taco bar at wedding wouldn't be like taco night at home either. it would good quality ingredients with multiple options for guests.

I am doing a taco bar at my Bridal Shower. The meats will be mild ground beef & shredded chicken. I'd suggest having a well-stocked salad bar as well, that way their is plenty of fillings for people who would prefer a salad over a taco. My mom has suggested that we also have a sandwich ring in case someone doesn't like tacos, which I think is a good idea.

Taco bars, food trucks, bbq, pizza bars, etc. are becoming more and more common at weddings. They're fun and usually cheaper than traditional catering. I'd say let them do the tacos if that's what they want. Its their day and they should be able to enjoy themselves.

All that being said, I do think a taco bar is a bit more casual. If the rest of the wedding is very formal, it might seem a bit odd and I'd be worried about ruining my fancy clothes with messy tacos.

I am half Hispanic and my fiancé is half Italian. We love both of those food genres so we decided to do a little bit of both:
    1. We will have a “Noshing” table with bite-sized goodies like sliders, salad, etc.
    2. We will have an Italian station w penne and gnocchi
    3. We will have a fajita station (steak and chicken)

A taco bar sounds good to me but I had similar concerns. Our “stations” really helped with this because so many other types of food will be served along w the fajitas.

My FH and I did't want traditional food so we chose a taco/nacho bar. I'm definitely not embarrassed, but it is a personal decision. Maybe think about having other food besides the taco bar?
