We are a bit conflicted about what kind of tables we want at our wedding. His mom got really upset when we said we wanted long tables- I already lost 2 arguments regarding the way I want my wedding to go. So, we are wondering what are the benefits one over the other? Our wedding should be around 50 guest, I will need to separate some people- hence, Long tables = assigned seats. Her claim is that it will be difficult to engage in a conversation on the long/tuscan tables.

Just an overview of what I want for the wedding: short simple ceremony (we've been together for 10 years), hang around w friend and family at the cocktail hour and a sit down dinner. We are not having a real reception...so any advice??? And sorry for the rant...both of our families are being a pain...

I think round tables allow conversation better than long tables. Everyone can hear each other without yelling and you are already facing each other.

    PROs of long table:

fits more people in small space, aesthetically pleasing, trendy, simple set up.

With long tables, you can still talk to the people next to you, across, and diagonal. That is potentially 6 people having a conversation, which I think is plenty!

I prefer rounds for big gatherings. It makes it easier for guests to carry on conversations and not feel left out.

What about arranging long tables in a U-shape?
