Table setting with no plates

Future Mrs Harvey, on March 17, 2016 at 7:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

We are doing buffet style dinner and I want to have the plates on the buffet. Would it be okay to have (other than the centerpieces) water/tea goblets the only thing on the table? Or do I at least need to have napkins and menus on the table?

I would have napkins and silverware on the tables and plates at the buffet line. I feel like that's how it's normally done. You don't really need menus unless you want them.

Have the entire place setting on the tables minus the plates. Your guests don't need to be fiddling around carrying a plate and silverware. Any function I have ever attended that was buffet had complete table settings with the plates on the buffet line.

@Jeleebeenz What else do you have as place setting?

Napkins, glassware, silverware, optional charger plates, optional favors. Menus aren't really necessary for a buffet, actually they are never necessary but even less for buffet. At one wedding there were little "thank you for sharing our day" cards at each place setting in lieu of the plates until the buffet was served.

Napkins, silverware, and glassware are a must at the table for a buffet. Anything over that is optional if you want to have it.

I think I would put a charger plate with the napkin or menu on top.

Like Julia said, you need water glasses, silverware, and napkins on the table. But chargers and menus are optional.

I think glassware, silverware and napkins are sufficient. I've never totally understood the purpose of chargers other than for looks and really don't feel a menu is necessary esp in the setting of a buffet.

For our table's our caterer just folded napkins for each place setting. This was included in our package so it didn't cost us any extra.

Were doing doilies. It'll look like this, different Linen though. Our centerpieces will have gold doilies as the base so it was fitting Smiley smile the napkins with flatware will be on the doilies and the Favors will be in front of them Smiley smile

This is what we're using for the centerpieces

You need silverware, napkins and water set. I absolutely HATE carrying silverware and a buffet plate. Dropped many a fork. It's annoying. Set the table with those items, at least; it just looks better too - more complete.
