Table runners or table overlays?

LSC_sf, on March 29, 2014 at 12:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Are any of you doing table runners or overlays? Our venue has round tables of 10 people and the basic linens but I'm looking into either a runner or overlay. Some of the table runners I've seen have two and others have one. What are your thoughts on them and are you doing one? If you are, what made you choose one over the other? Thanks!

I'm doing one blue table runner on each table. The table cloths will be white. I just wanted to add some color and they were cheaper to buy then rent.

I am doing overlays on our round tables and table runners for the banquet table/head table. I rented because it was cheaper for me that way. The provided tablecloths from venue are white my overlays and runners will be black (it was the only way to really pull the black color into reception...(my colors are black and white with the roses being the accent colors)

Aftan our venue is similar, we'll have white tablecloths and napkins so I wanted to have some color in there. We're having chair covers which will be white with eggplant/plum sashes, so I was thinking of a runner or overlay for the table. The eggplant is a dark color so I'm wondering if that'll be too dark for an overlay on all the tables. The centerpieces are flowers and they'll be whites and purples.

Our venue is providing ivory table cloths, and we're doing burlap table runners to match our theme.

Aleykit & heidi are your tables round? If so, are you doing one table runner per table? I've seen round ones with two before.

Runners on a round table and overlays on a banquet table look funny to me...I did end up renting linen napkins because my venue doesn't provide those but the ones I am getting are white. Our caterer offered napkins but they were paper and I felt the elegance I am wanting would get lost with those. We decided against chair covers because we really wanted our photographer lol

I'm doing table runners. My colors are ivory, coral, and champagne gold. My table runners are gold. The gold is just an accent color. I want the coral to pop out!

Yes, the tables are round, and yes, we are doing one runner per table.

We are doing overlays as they were a cheaper option for me than runners. So all tables will have ivory table cloths with green or blue overlays.

I like the one runner look on round tables-- it adds a bit more dimension to the table than an overlay (b/c you can still see the color from the tablecloth underneath), but also doesn't split the table into sections like two runners criss-crossing does.

I am burlap looking tablecloths with lace overlays. I could not find a runner I liked so my centerpieces will be like a runner.

Thanks all! Barbara, I agree, I like the look of a runner since it breaks it up a little but you can still see the cloth underneath. I'm leaning towards that because the overlay color would be pretty dark and take over.
