Table Numbers vs. Names

AllieCat, on April 26, 2017 at 9:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 43

Are you doing table numbers or table names? If you're doing names, what are you doing and why?

FH and I were having dinner with my parents last night and they asked us that question. I hadn't really thought about it, and I don't think I care either way. FH seems to think we're 'more fun' than just doing numbers. Just curious as to what other people are doing!

In the interest of saving time, we're just doing table numbers.

Numbers. I went to a Star Wars themed wedding with names in place of numbers and it was a mess with guests trying to find their tables.

We are doing names. We will have names/words that have some meaning to us and the back of the table number will have the story of why. Our theme is adventure/travel but the words are just more about us as a couple:

Examples we are using are: Turkey (country), Spencer Glacier (Alaska trip), Strawberries (FH song lyric butchery), Elton John (FH lack of voice recognition), UP! (my favourite movie), etc etc....

We're doing both (just names would be personal but confusing, so numbers to help people find their way faster).

The names will be after locations in both our hometowns. The majority of the guests have either lived or gone to school in one of the towns so it'll be familiar to almost everyone.

We're doing table numbers. For a while I considered doing names and using street names for significant moments in our relationship (for example, the street we met on, the street we got engaged on, etc) but I felt like it would get too complicated so I just stuck with numbers.

I was thinking about doing something similar to @VC but I'm running out of time and patience so I just ordered table numbers on amazon haha. If you're doing names- don't wait until the last minute like I am

We are doing names...specifically bible verses. Each table name is a Bible verse which corresponds to each guest's escort card (ex: Table: James 1:17) and on the table card it has the verse printed below the name. All the verses we chose relate to love, marriage, and family. I know this wouldn't be meaningful to everyone, but for us it is very special! Having said that, if you are already overwhelmed with decisions (I can totally relate) just make your life easy and go with table numbers!

We are doing names of 14'ers we have climbed together including a pic of us at each one. I don't think it should be confusing since we only will have 10 tables.

We're doing numbers. I'd thought about having names, but we have too many tables for that. It'll just be too confusing.

I'm doing cities we've traveled to with a photo of each. I don't expect to have more than 10 tables. The centerpieces will be themed to that city so hopefully people can see what table it is without getting super close to read something.

I'm doing the same as @Elizabeth. We're naming each table with a place we've traveled to together and we only have 8 tables so we're good. We're also doing escort cards but I haven't decided if we'll have a separate table for those or if we'll just set them on each table.

We're doing numbers with pictures of us at those ages. I saw the idea on Pinterest and thought it was the cutest idea!

We did table numbers, just because we didn't have a theme we wanted to incorporate and to make it easy on our guests!

If you do have a theme, table names can be really fun!

We have little Disney touches in our wedding since that is where we got engaged, and literally my 'happy place'. Instead of numbers, we are cutting out silhouettes of characters from movies. On their place card, it will have the same picture of the character that is already on the table and the name of the movie that character belongs to.

I think it depends on the size of your wedding. We will have about 30 tables at ours, so numbers it is. I can't imagine having all those people walking around looking for names. But for a small wedding, I think it's a cute idea to make it more personal.

I am technically doing both. I have a travel theme, so each table is a destination, but they are also a gate #, if that makes sense. So instead of table 1, it's gate 1: lisboa. That way I can have cool vintage postcards, but still make it easy for guests to figure out where their table is.

We are doing table names. My FW and I are foodies so each table will be named after our favorite fine dining restaurants.

We were married at a ski resort and named our tables after different ski runs on the mountain. We only had 6 tables though which made it easier for guests to find their spot.

If you're doing names, please do a number as well. Finding your table shouldn't be a treasure hunt for your guests. Also keep in mind that lighting is often too dim to read.
