Symbolic Ceremony in Italy

Samantha, on May 2, 2019 at 8:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi everyone!
My FH and I are thinking on eloping or having a symbolic ceremony in Italy (just us two and a photographer) then coming home to the US and having a reception/party. Any recommendations on places where we can have this or even someone who can “symbolically marry us” and have us say our vows in Italy. We are thinking of waiting to legally marry when we get home the the US as a lot of people mentioned it’s a headache to legally marry in Italy? Any help is appreciated ❤️

I don’t have any advice but that sounds so romantic and gorgeous. Sometimes I wish we would have done something like that for the intamacy if it. Good luck!

Omg!!!! So happy my fiancé and I are not alone! We are in the beginning stages of planning and we are considering Italy as well! Which part of Italy were you planning on having your wedding? We were thinking Amalfi for us!

    Hi Samatha!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

Where about in Italy would you like to travel to?

It could be a great idea to reach out to the venue's wedding coordinator at whatever hotel you are planning to stay at and see if they could recommend someone to 'symbolically marry' you?

If you would like to legally get married in Italy, as with any wedding abroad, it would be important to research the wedding laws there. Have you conducted much research into this yet?

    Hi Cliodhna,

We have never been to Italy before so this is all very unfamiliar to us. I was looking at Rome, Tuscany, Amalfi Coast - but very open to recommendations. That is a great idea about contacting hotel coordinators! I have considered getting legally married in Italy, but thinking it might be less of a headache to just have a symbolic ceremony and go to city hall when we get back to the US. I will definitely research some more on this though on all of the laws!

    Hi Denise,

Yes, i love that we are not alone in this! We have never been to Italy before so really have no clue on where. I was looking at Rome - heard that it is romantic but a busy city. Also looking at Amalfi Coast and Tuscany, but was reading that if we want somewhere more intimate to look for small, less touristy towns! Are you guys planning on bringing family and friends or have it be just the two of you? Wishing you all the luck in this planning process!

    Hi Samantha,

we invited our immediate family members... that’s 11 adults and 1 baby. I’ve been to Italy twice and yes, I do agree that Rome is very busy. We liked the relaxing vibe of Amalfi, my next choice is Tuscany... but I’ve only been to Florence. Initially we thought about doing it legally, but after speaking to our planner, she recommended to do the formalities back home. I think we’re going to do that... she said it will save us more money and headaches. Are you planning everything yourself or are you going to hire a planner? Feel free to DM me! : )
