Sword Arch

Snif, on November 8, 2010 at 1:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

So I've been feeling pretty bad about how some things have worked out with the wedding planning. FS has more of a 'vision' of how he's wanted his wedding to be and so far none of his top 3's have worked out.

1.) He wanted a catholic wedding and I'd have to go through an annulment and I really dug my heels in because I would not stand up in any religion to 'denounce' my past relationship with the father of my child.

2.) He wanted a sword arch but all of his Junior officers will still be on deployment.

3.) He wants to wear his uniform to get married (on this one I'm still keeping quiet. My ideal would be for him not to wear it but at the same time it's not something I need to pull the bride-card out on.)

ANYway. I hung out with one of his best friends this weekend and somehow we got on the topic of the sword arch and she called her husband and asked how many people could he pull together for a sword arch and he said safely I can get 8, possibly 10 - would that w

(cont) would that work? I was jumping up and down hugging her. We are going to surprise him on the wedding day with a sword arch and it makes me so, so happy that I can finally facilitate something that I KNOW he wants. Smiley laugh

AWWW a surprise for him?? that would be awesome!!!! Yes I think thats reasonable not wanting to denounce your marriage..ya that may get sticky if he doesn't know about the sword arch and you say no to the uniform, knowing he'll get that..how strongly do you feel about the uniform?

Aw, that makes me happy to hear. Why are you against the uniform? God, I love a man in a uniform. You get to decide what you're wearing, let him decide what he's wearing...it could be sooo much worse!

Well, he wouldn't need to be in uniform for the sword arch. The guys stepping up and doing it for us are going to change right before.

As far as the uniform, I sort of have this stubborn idea in my head that I want to marry the man, not the navy. But in reality I'm doing both and like I said I'm just going to suck that one up if it's what he wants to do.

Awwww, that's so a Bride SUCCESS for you!!! Good job Fins! Sidebar - I LOVE men in uniform for their weddings! My pappy married my grandma in his dress blues and all my life I remember looking at that photo in awe.

Thats exciting!! I wanted to do the sword arch too for my husband but it wasn't possible for us since he was the only active duty person at our wedding! We were too far for anyone to come.

My husband opted out of wearing the uniform for the wedding. He didn't want too much attention on himself and the tuxedo just made him look so scrumptious Smiley smile)

That sounds awesome! What a great surprise for him. I say let him wear the uniform, in the grand scheme of things it isn't that big of a deal and it will make him happy. I don't actually know anyone who is active military who wouldn't get married in their uniform. Besides 20 years down the road it might be nice to have those pictures. I agree with the other ladies that like a man in uniform, especially a navy one!! Smiley winking

We had the saber arch at our wedding, and it was awesome. They looked so sharp in their uniforms, and the pictures are incredible. (Make sure you find out if the Navy will swat you on the rear as you walk out - a friend of mine didn't know and got hit so hard it bruised! Mine was just a little tap)

When it comes to getting married in uniform, guys either love it or hate. I really wanted DS to wear his, but he refused (and he's been in for 21 years..lol). My brother, I don't think, would wear his either. He did for his first wedding because my mom and his ex insisted, but he didn't want to. LOL. You're not marrying the Navy, you're marrying HIM, who happens to be in the Navy. The arch will be awesome, and I'm sure it will mean a lot to your FS!

FS's decision on the uniform or tux I think is more financial. He doesn't understand if he has a perfectly good uniform why he should pay for a tux. lol

We are having a saber arch with only 6 people. I think it will still give an amazing effect so you should be great with 8!

I let him decide if he wanted to wear his uniform or not. I figured I picked out my dress so what he wears should be up to him. He decided that him and the groomsmen that are in the military will all be in uniform.

If you do have the sword arch though, i think it would be very appropriate for him to wear his uniform.
