Switching up what side we stand on

Heather, on March 11, 2020 at 8:32 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18
So usually it is groom to the right and bride to the left (and I know there is this whole thing about how back in the day it was that way so the bride wouldn't get hit with the groom's sword..but let's get real, it's 2020 and there will be no swords.) So where the sun is setting it would be in whomever is on the left side eyes. My fiance has offered to stand on that side to save us ladies that fate. Has anyone ever switched bridal sides or will we look like we don't know what we are doing?

I don't think anyone will really think twice about it. They'll probably realize the sun and assume that's why you made the switch. I wouldn't worry too much about it!

I don’t think it matters much. You’re right. It’s 2020 and we should feel free to have a little flexibility.

Is it possible to have your wedding slightly earlier or slightly later so the sun isn’t bothering anyone?

But no it’s fine to stand on whatever side you want. My husband stood on the left for our ceremony as is traditional in Jewish weddings

We’re switching sides because my left side is my more photogenic side and I want to love my ceremony pictures. I don’t think anyone will care or really notice.

My best friend switch sides because she liked the other side of her face better lol. It wasn't a big deal. They only thing was you either need to tell the guest to sit on any side or let the ushers know it is switched for the guest.

It's really not a big deal. As someone else mentioned, other religions/cultures switch up the sides too Smiley smile

I’m switching sides because my hair will be to one side to hide a scar and I don’t want my face party covered by that so I’m switching Smiley smile

We are going to flip sides too! Because both of your better sides are on the other side than the one that would show if we would stand the traditional way so we decided we are going to switch it. I don't think anyone will care to be honest Smiley xd

Thank you guys for you input! I feel a lot better about us switching sides now. ❤ We will definitely have to tell the guests and family where to sit and I am sure there will be questions but hopefully it will all work out in the end.

I mean, WE had swords at our wedding, so you never know...

However, it really doesn't matter. I have never really thought about where the bride stands, so just do what you want!

Oh I'm standing so that my right side is showing to the crowd haha. I def. have a better side. I don't think anyone will notice at all. Or if they do, I don't think they'll care at all.

We are going to switch sides. But not because of the sun... because that is my “good side” for photos LOL

You can totally flip sides. It's totally up to you two what sides you stand on Smiley smile
