How do you tell someone NO in a polite way when they say "Hey so John is not able to go to the wedding can Mark go in his place?" FYI I dont know who Mark is Smiley tongue

STBMsMullings, I just feel that I'd rather put the $ I paid for that plate towards the bar rather than have someone I do not know at my wedding. Plus It was not my friend's plus one to begin with to ask me to replace. Its another friend's husband that can not go and now she wants to bring a date. Ummm no I dont think so. Also, other's have asked if they can bring a date and sadly we just cant add on a plus one for everyone so it wouldnt be fair.

FH's family kept doing this! So annoying. His mom had to start telling people no.

"Unfortunately we aren't able to accomodate anyone who isn't invited"

WHY IS THIS A TREND WITH WEDDING RESPONSES? Honestly - What is wrong with people who think that weddings are the same as an open house?

I would say something along the lines of:

I'm sorry to hear that John won't be able to make it! We were looking forward to celebrating with you both! Unfortunately, we are only able to accomodate plus ones for our married guests. I feel it would be rude to our other guests to allow you to bring someone else, when I am unable to offer the same to them. I hope that you will still be able to come!

I actually had 2 people swap out their "plus one" for someone else, but honestly, they were two women whose husbands I invited, and I don't know either husband very well (just met them a couple of times) so I didn't raise any objection. It was weird, but easier to just say yes; I'd already budgeted for them.

    Marlina, how about:

"We invited people that have known us forever, and love and support us. We really would like to keep the wedding as intimate as possible. I hope you understand."

Good for you, M! You know, not for nothing, but she could've been rude and just brought someone else in that person's place. Thankfully she asked first. My family is a little more bold than that. LOL.

As long as I have planned for the person to have an extra person I wouldn't care. Besides there are already people from FH family that I don't really know coming. I try not to worry too much about these and if this helps my guest have a good time why not I'm already paying for the plate.

The only thing I am stressing about right now is getting an outfit for one of our ring bearers. His mom and I were supposed to go shopping yesterday but she BAILED on me and so i went alone. AND came up empty handed. I only have one option but she won't reply to my text so I don't know if I should order it or not. OIY FRUSTRATING. Otherwise, everything else is under control. Now I just need to get this headhache/migraine that I have had for two weeks now under control and I'll be a happy camper!

How are things coming along for you?!

At least they are asking Marlina, I had a few guests just show up with the person. People think weddings are a free for all sometimes.
