Surviving rain at an outside wedding

Heather, on September 3, 2016 at 12:06 PM

My wedding is in a month and a half and is outdoors completely. The weather should be ok but I'm a little nervous because we have no back up plan except potentially a tent. Our budget is SUPER tight so there's not really any spare money. Any suggestions? Or know anyone who survived a rainy outdoor...

Sorry if I'm not being very clear! Basically there will be a pavilion/covered area or a tent (TBD) but it will be completely open either way. I just want to make sure everyone is comfortable and I was curious if there were other things I could do to prepare. Thanks for the idea about putting up sides! That is definitely something I can prepare just in case.

Get at least one umbrella that photographs well, and bring as many as you can get (pretty or not) if it really does rain. Don't wear sandals if it rains. Make sure your guests know it will be outside. That's all I can think of. :-)

You HAVE to have a Plan B. No one wants to use it but make sure you have one in place.

If people have to walk from a parking lot to the location, try and put down some sort of runner like burlap so that people don't have to walk through mud or wet grass. If it does seem like there will be rain, invest in some of those plastic umbrella bags like they have at stores so people don't have to hang wet umbrellas on chairs or tables. Also, you could have some paper towels handy for arriving guests to use if they do get wet walking to the tent.

This is one of my biggest fears, I am getting married in SoCal in June, after nearly a decade of drought there is like a .5% chance of rain but it still has me worried so I have a tent on standby.

Rent a tent with walls to keep the rain out. My venue told me I can rent a tent through them the week before if the forecast is predicting rain, so I'm budgeting that money assuming I'll need it, and if I don't, that's an extra $800.

Thanks so much for the advice!

It will be a super chill and casual reception so luckily no one will be dressed super fancy but I love the idea of a burlap runner to avoid mud!
