I got a special engraving on the inside of my fiance's ring, a special line from the book that brought us together. Look up 'All My Atoms' from His Dark Materials for the passage if you'd like to read it. He's not allowed to see it before the wedding; I love surprises, and this is one of the few I've been able to plan for him. He's very excited about it!
We're not having a religious ceremony, so I'm wondering if it's best to have him see the engraving and read the passage during the ceremony or afterwards? The officiant we're looking at has poems and all sorts of things she's incorporated into ceremonies, I've been assured it would be a smooth addition if I was to go that route.
Also, we're not expecting any toasts or speeches during the reception. My MOH who would have made a toast dropped out for major health reasons, and my fiance's best man has already begged us not to force him to do any public speaking because he gets mad stage fright. We don't mind, it just means we don't have excessive amounts of people waiting to talk and aren't adding additional time to standard toasts and things if I read it during the reception.
