Superstition about Rehearsal?

Has anyone else ever heard that it's bad luck for the bride to participate in the rehearsal? Like, the bride should not walk the aisle during the rehearsal... I can't remember where I heard this, but I was a BM in a wedding where the bride didn't walk. It may have just been because she wanted to...

I can't remember where I heard this, but I was a BM in a wedding where the bride didn't walk. It may have just been because she wanted to observe to make sure things went how she wanted, but for some reason, I feel like someone said it's bad luck.

I may have totally made it up lol

Yes, this is a pretty old superstition. In the original Emily Post from 1922, she has a long section about wedding rehearsals and explains that the bride should be there to direct the rehearsal but that she should ask a friend or female cousin to "stand in" for her.

Yes I've heard of this!!! My MIL and grandma both have told me this from the beginning. Maybe it's a southern thing.

Heard of it? Yep. Putting any stock in that superstition? Noooope.

For those who haven't heard, it's bad luck for a bride to walk down the aisle more than one time? (So if you're having a second + wedding or have been a BM in a friend's wedding, you're SOL according to superstition). Another variation is that it will bring evil spirits if you practice walking down the aisle.

I will practice walking at the rehearsal. Come at me, evil spirits!

    Absolutely! I think it's a southern thing.

I didn't walk the center aisle if the church. I walked the side aisle before any bridesmaids came in, and sat in a pew until my dad walked in by himself. Then I stood up next to him and then DH when it was appropriate. Walked out the side aisle too.

I put this in the same place as not seeing each other before the ceremony. It's a tradition/superstition, but the world will not end and your marriage will not be doomed if you choose to walk the center aisle and/or do a first look.

I've never heard of this! It seems really odd to not participate in a rehearsal for your own wedding? Personally, I would want the practice just for a peace of mind the day of the wedding.

That superstition kinda defeats the purpose of the rehearsal doesn't it? I definitely will be walking down to make sure that I am not in unfamiliar territory on the wedding day.

I've heard of that. My sis in law didnt walk the isle when we practiced for her wedding either. Although she did come to the altar and make sure she knew where to stand and did some other stuff for practice.

I heard of it because of a thread on here once. It's very weird to me because it defeats the whole point to the rehearsal in my opinion.

When Fh sister got married 4yrs ago she had her maid of honor walk down the aisle with her father while she waited at the end. Idk why and didn't ask.

I've heard of this before. You have someone stand in for you. You're not crazy it's a real superstition!

I've heard this for years and again at my recent wedding rehersal. I'm not superstitious, but members of my fam are and would not let me walk down the aisle to rehearse.

I've heard of that. Heard of maid of honor standing in for the bride instead. I don't think you should pay attention to it. You will want to walk down to the music and know what it's going to feel like.

I've run in plenty of wedding rehearsals and have never come across this superstition here in the midwest. Best wishes!

I'm going to need the practice. I could see both sides though.
