Superstition about Rehearsal?

Anshea M., on August 30, 2017 at 4:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 44

Has anyone else ever heard that it's bad luck for the bride to participate in the rehearsal? Like, the bride should not walk the aisle during the rehearsal...

I can't remember where I heard this, but I was a BM in a wedding where the bride didn't walk. It may have just been because she wanted to observe to make sure things went how she wanted, but for some reason, I feel like someone said it's bad luck.

I may have totally made it up lol

I have never heard this. The point of the rehearsal is to go through everything so that you have the timing down. I was told by multiple people to make sure I wore my shoes so I know how it would feel to walk/stand in them for the day of.

    I'm not so sure that's a thing.

Never heard it. I'm also not very superstitious. I'll be walking down the aisle and doing a first look the day of.

I never heard of it, and I don't believe in superstitions.

If you believe something will go wrong, it will.

Never heard that one. The only tradition I've seen at rehearsals is that the bride carries a paper plate with the bows/ribbons from her shower.

I've never heard of it but did some research, apparently it's a superstition. That seems weird though because I'd think the bride would need to know where to stand and when to walk down with everyone else...

I've heard of it as something done in the south, although never personally seen it done myself. I've heard the bride as a "fill in" (usually a bridesmaid) to act as her during the rehearsal, while she stands close by.

Apparently, I am one of a few that HAVE heard of this.

My mom talks about this all the time. Asking me who I am going to have stand in for me..... It is super weird.

I heard of that before. I was watching Teen Mom lol and Macy said it was bad luck to walk down the aisle. I looked it up and I did find things saying it is bad luck. I plan to walk during rehearsal though so I know I'm doing everything correct. There are way too many superstitions out there to keep track of every little thing

Im so shocked that no one hasn't heard of this. I've been to several wedding rehearsals and the bride want allowed to walk down at either of them. Maybe it's a southern thing. I'm not going to do it either. Bad luck or not, I'm not going to chance it.

We did this at my FSIL wedding rehearsal and it was a big mistake cuz not having her in the actual practice of walking down the aisle screwed up everything especially the recessional....

    I've never heard of this.

It's walking and standing; if you have a competent officiant and venue staff, you'll be fine.

When our venue had an open house my mom yelled at my to stay away from the arch with my FH. I wanted to get a picture under it but she was like "absolutely not that is bad luck." I didn't believe it but everyone else we were with agreed. As far as rehearsal i'm definitely going to be walking. We don't have a DOC and need to plan that shit out.. lol.

Yes. I have heard of this. Last time I was a bride maid the aisle of the church not the bride walked across the front to practice the walk then stood as she would with the groom. She was able to observe everything and it was still a first for them to actually walk down the aisle the next day at their wedding.

Okay, so I'm not totally crazy lol

@Rebecca M...wearing the shoes is a good idea.

And we did keep the plate bouquet from my shower this past weekend!
