Supermarket Wedding Cake

Has anyone ever done this? We've been thinking about doing this since we are having such a small affair and cutting costs is a great thing for us. Debating if cake is a good place to cut a corner at.

I cannot believe how expensive cake is! I think it's a personal thing. Some want the elaborate cake, and others don't. Me, I'm not into the cake. I want it to be pretty and taste great, but other than that, I don't care. We're ordering our cake from FH's aunt (she does tons of cakes). It is going to be simple, pretty and taste wonderful. We haven't discussed price, but after reading this, I hope I'm not going to be completely shocked when she gives us the price. I cannot hide my thoughts-my face gives it all away!

I am doing cupcakes and saving a TON of money by doing this. We are getting 204 mini cupcakes (for 150 guests) and it is only costing us 225.

Sam's has great cakes. I know a lot of people who have bought regular sheet cakes (It's cut in back and put on a plate, who will know anyway?) and used a real cake for the cutting layer with the rest of it fake but made to look real. Fooled most people.

I'm not sure about supermarket cake. But it seems that other brides on here have used them with success. I think you can find a decent Baker to make a great wedding cake for 300-500 dollars for sure. Our cake for 80 people is less than 400 dollars

My mom did Walmart and a 3/4 tier was $150 an that was with a custom design and colors etc.

I'm using a bakery my moh suggested, an our tasting was awesome. We're paying $130 for a 2 tier wedding cake that's decked out with hand drawn branches and "snow", as well as a 2 tier 8" cake that's going to be a stump for the grooms cake.

That's with any deco and colors we want. Same with flavors. Wedding cake is vanilla w/raspberry filling in one layer, Italian creme in another and the grooms cake will be Texas Chocolate(chocolate with cinnamon flavoring and itty bitty pecans in it)
