Super early wedding present?

Sarah, on January 27, 2020 at 10:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi there! My fiancé and I are getting married in October, and we just received a wedding present (9 months in advance). We were pretty surprised to get a present so far out from the wedding, and we're not sure when we should send a thank you note. Should we send one ASAP or wait until after the wedding, when we send out our other notes?

Send it now! We got married in October and started receiving presents in January as well and all the way until the wedding. People like to know their gifts were received!

It wouldn’t be polite to wait 9 months to thank someone for a gift.

Now! All gifts received up to 2 weeks before the wedding, the notes should be written ASAP, preferably in no more than 1-2 weeks. Proper etiquette is not to bring a wedding gift with you, like a shower, but to send it to the home before or after the wedding. So with a shower and most wedding gifts received before the wedding, stock up on thank you cards and stamped. They can be on any note card, does not need to have a printed Thank You, as you will be writing that in the note inside . Enjoy your gifts! After the wedding you will have only thank you notes for gifts brought to the ceremony, and some will dribble in for a while. Most notes, start now

As we physically received gifts we've been sending thank you cards. If something was purchased off our registry, but we haven't received it yet, then we are waiting.

You should send all TY cards right after you open the gift. And yes, you can open them and use them right away Smiley smile

I would send it now. My FH and I got a gift from a family member who is unable to make it to the wedding right after we sent out our invitations. They sent back their RSVP card in the box where the gift was from. I sent them a thank you card the next day.
