Sunday Wedding Tips?

Chelsea, on June 16, 2020 at 9:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I'm planning a wedding for next summer, and I'm leaning towards a Sunday. For starters, the venue I love is $2,000 (which will pretty much pay for our honeymoon cruise) cheaper for Sunday vs. Saturday, but it also fits our personalities really well. We're more laid back. It'll be a an easy, afternoon wedding at a botanical garden.

Almost all of our guests are local (within an hour and a half of the venue), so I'm not too worried about that stopping people from coming. We're also thinking of a 3pm - 8pm to be considerate of those going to work the next day. Although, I'm a teacher and so are a lot of my friends, so a good portion will be off for the summer anyway.

I've only told family so far, and many of them don't seem thrilled about it because it's not traditional. I guess I just want to hear from others who've had/been to a Sunday wedding. Any tips or things you would've done differently?

I think the time you set for it is pretty good already because an earlier time for a Sunday wedding is usually better

I've been to a few Sunday weddings. The earlier time is definitely good for those who have work the next day. Yeah, most people will prefer Saturdays but Sundays aren't that bad. I prefer that to a Friday where I have to leave work early.

My friend did a Sunday wedding and it was lovely and I am having my elopement ceremony Sunday. Honey here is the best advice I can give you. Do what you want and makes you two happy. Everyone is going to have an opinion but unless they kick in money to get a venue and caterer on a different day they can hush it. You do you boo boo! Smiley kiss

I love this! Mostly because I KNOW it is my day (well, I guess my honey's too), but I still have a hard time letting myself know that it's okay to do what I want.

We had a Sunday wedding, and had literally no complaints. We had it 12-5 so it wouldn’t be a problem for work the next day. We had plenty of out of town guests and literally no one complained. Some people took off Monday to travel, and some people (my father in law and brother in law included) left on Sunday evening after the reception. Hopefully you won’t have any problems, especially since most of your guests are local. People could be home by 9, that’s totally reasonable!

No I completely get it. I have even let comments here make me question how big I want to make my elopement and I have to remind myself to ignore that. I think it is common that people constantly give opinions but to me marrying the love of your life is traditional. Who is to say how tradition goes and in 2020 things have changed. You could get married on a Monday on a rooftop who cares. I say plan what you want and anyone that truly cares for you will be there. Smiley smile

Our wedding is on a Sunday and will be similar to the times you mentioned! Ceremony starts at 3pm and reception will end at 9pm. I think people will get over the time if the truly want to come. Our wedding is also in the summer. We haven't had too many complain about it but we wanted a summer wedding for spiritual and cultural reasons. I think the start time you mentioned will be early enough to not end late but late enough to not be too early!

I’m having a Sunday wedding also but I’m doing it Memorial Day weekend next year. My venue also went down $2000 because of it. I think we’ll be ok, My issue is because it’s a holiday weekend a lot of people make plans so I have to send my save the dates like yesterday LOL

I love that timeline for a Sunday wedding and seems fine for local guests. 👍

We had the exact same plan as far as having a Sunday wedding in June as we are teachers and we would be off the following Monday. My venue was almost $4000 cheaper than a Saturday....... But hello COVID..... So our new September date is still on a Sunday but we are still starting in the evening, 5:30 to 10:30pm. I want that golden hour sunset picture that I have been dreaming of!!!

If guests want to attend your wedding, they will do what they have to do to be there for whatever times you select. People will moan and groan and give you all kinds of reasons why you shouldn't. If you listen to them, you'll have the wedding of their dreams not yours.

I said all of that to say, do what you want girl! It's your wedding! It's okay to be selfish on one of the biggest days of your life!

I had originally wanted to do a 1 o'clock ceremony and have an airy "Sunday brunch" reception. My MoH warned me that it might not go over too hot with family who are not the type to miss a morning at church. I think it'll go great! I've still got about a year, but I'm so excited!

Hmm, I mean I’m Jewish so I’m no expert on church haha, but aren’t there like 9 or 10am masses? They could be there by 1...

For $2000 cheaper, who cares what anyone else thinks! I’m a budgeter, so I’d jump on that opportunity for sure.

Oh gotcha! That stinks... idk how far people live but maybe they’d be able to arrive by 1? Or 1:30 just to be safe?

I mean, afternoon/early evening works fine too. But I’m biased towards the airy Sunday afternoon wedding because I loved mine 😍

That's how I'm looking at it, haha! I figured I'll invite all the same people I would — if they can't/don't want to come because it's a Sunday, that's less food to pay for!

Is that terrible? I don't think so hahaha

Sounds perfect. You’ve already made it early for people that have to work Monday. Most important is that you do what makes you happy and the people that matter the most will be there no matter what.

No doubt! I mean. Shouldn’t they be paying for us to eat instead as a congratulations? Lame 😂
