Summer Brides...How are you keeping your guests cool?

Mrs. S (Amanda C.), on December 1, 2013 at 7:22 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

I am thinking of using a wine barrel as a cooler for water bottles and having paper fans available in our colors.

If you're having a summer (outdoor or w/o AC) wedding, what are you doing to keep your guests comfortable?

Not a summer wedding per-say, but it's hot here year around. The church has straw fans and it's an evening wedding so it'll cool down a little bit before the reception

Hot is hot. Do an evening. Let people know it's outside and invite the gentlemen to take off their jackets. Rent big fans.

The bottom line is that practically no one likes to be outside when it's hot.

Air conditioning. We could never put people through a daytime, outdoor/ non A/C, hot summer wedding

Well the ceremony is outside and it will be brief (20ish minutes) then they can go right inside into the AC ballroom for cocktail hour. The ceremony will take place in a semi-shaded area and in the evening. Our GM will not be wearing jackets and will be rolling up their sleeves, which I'm guessing should give the message to our male guests that we're not enforcing a strict dress code by any means.

If its ridiculously hot, we have the option to move the ceremony inside, which I am happy to do. I would just love to have it outside and have booked the outside space at our venue. I'm not trying to make people bear the unbearable, just looking for any other ideas to help make them comfortable during the ceremony.

We're going to have little bottles of water available and our wedding programs will be fans.

Frozen lemonades? And an air-conditioned area for them to wait before the ceremony starts?

I love your barrel and fan idea! Cute!

September weather can be unpredictable I think. I havent thought about making sure the guests are comfortable outside for our 20 min ceremony. Fans seem like a cute idea tho! :-)

We had an outdoor wedding in August and got a lot of little water bottles to put in the big metal things full of ice. it worked well. our day was like the perfect temperature, but we were worried it would be really hot.

We're starting our ceremony later in the evening so that the summer sun won't be an issue..and giving out sunglasses as favors to protect their eyes.

I like the frozen lemonade idea, too. Maybe lemonade Italian ice could be fun to add in with the waters and they're still yellow to match out colors. The guests could definitely wait in the venue foyer or tasting room and those could easily accommodate our guests...then just invite them down a few minutes before the ceremony begins. I don't know why I didn't think of that, lol.

    @MarianiBride...thats too funny! Smiley smile

I am hoping that our friends and loved ones are smart enough to realize it's going to be hot and will be warned that the ceremony is outside...hopefully theyl'll come prepared, at least mentally. I have tons of teachers in my family (me being one) and was threatened if I had a school year wedding, so there were only so many months to choose from...all of them being HOT.

And then there will be on open bar, so they can't stay mad too long, right?!

I am having my wedding in the evening, cold bottles of water, and paper fans. All my guests know how hot it gets in Texas in July. I had to plan around concert dates and rodeos.

We are having an infused water bar, lemon cucumber, lime mint, and ginger spritzer. We are also providing fans. Everyone is use to our heat, it's dry and it'll cool down in the evening. But there are always those few days a year when it doesn't.

You can rent large electric fans.

Well, we went with a May wedding to try and avoid the sticky heat months of June-August.

We can decide on the location of the wedding (inside vs. outside) up until 3 hours before the ceremony. So, I'll have a pretty good idea of the forecast within 3 hours of the ceremony.

The ceremony is about 20 minutes long. If it is RIDICULOUSLY hot, then we'll move everything inside. Of course, if it's raining, things will also be inside.

If it's on the warm side at all (more like summer than spring) then I'll probably get some coolers and water bottles together. We're keeping the ceremony short on purpose though... but I love these ideas!
