Suggestions for Beach Bonfire Wedding in Florida

Future Mrs. V, on March 28, 2017 at 10:17 AM Posted in Florida Planning 0 12

I am in the early stages of planning my wedding for around 50 people (probably less) for later this year. We are not yet set on a date, or location. Our current idea is to have it in Florida during October or November of 2017 but that can be changed for a good reason.

We aren't going to have dancing so I don't want a formal sit down reception. Instead we are thinking something like a shrimp boil on the beach with a bonfire.

My first step is finding companies/counties that can cater a beach fire somewhere relatively close to affordable accommodations. So far, all I have found are a couple companies in Walton County.

I am having trouble coming up with other options so I wanted to come to the experts here at WW and see if I can get some advice from people in Florida, or who have done this in the past. Also open to suggestions for the best dates to avoid being rained out.

Thanks!!

I think you are going to have a really hard time finding a place that allows bonfires/beach fires in Florida. That really isn't typical here in Florida. Especially with coastal erosion, sea turtle nesting, the native birds etc. You may need to change your plans.

I would check out Anna Maria island, there are a lot of little places on the beach to get married, that have little sort of huts that you can rent out for your food, etc.

Check out the Sandbar and the Beach House.

Alternative option, would be to get married on the beach, and then rent a house, and have your shrimp boil, and fire pit at the house.

We're having a fancy dinner party without dancing. We're really excited for it.

Have you thought of reaching out to hotels on the beach as well? They may have that outdoor patio space to do the fire piece. Probably less likely to allow you to bring in a caterer, but maybe they could help you come up with the menu you're looking for? Otherwise, I'd agree with PP and your best best is renting a home (which may be tough because of "season) and having the event that way.

I agree with PP that it will be hard to have a bonfire on the beach. Sea turtle nesting season is from August to October. Your best bet would be to get married on the beach then get a venue for your reception. October might be difficult to book because it is very busy. If you're looking for anything in North Florida for that time frame just remember that FL/GA game is usually around the Halloween weekend and hotels will skyrocket, it could also be difficult to book vendors since everyone is partying. We booked our venue in January and all October and November Saturdays were taken except FL/GA weekend.

Here on the west coast of Florida, turtle hatching season officially ends Oct. 31. Oct. & Nov. are still off-peak as far as hotel prices go. You would need a beachfront restaurant or resort to have a fire pit. Open flames are not allowed on the public beaches. Caterers can handle food for a beach reception.

On Anna Maria Island are the Sandbar & BeachHouse Restaurants, and the Gulf Drive Café.

I'm inclined to agree with the others. I really really wanted to do a bonfire in Florida for my welcome reception but my research has found it is not possible.

We have rented this large beach house In Gulf Shores. Our "reception"cwill be held here after our wedding ceremony on the beach (which is just steps from the house) . Our immediate family is staying in the house. It sleeps 30 people, we will have approx 40-50 at our wedding. We have hired a beach wedding company to provide the setup for the weddong

Hi, Congratulations. We are trying to do the same thing but in January or February next year. Did you get your bonfire? Any advice?

We ended up doing the bonfire with s'mores as our welcome event the night before. The ceremony was then on the beach and we rented a large house on the beach that allowed events and had the reception in the back yard.

We did this in Walton County and used Live Well 30A for the fire.
