Sudden venue change!

DaisyVenture, on August 28, 2018 at 10:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
So my wedding is exactly 60 days away! We had an appointment with our venue this past Friday. As we arrived we come to find our venue completely destroyed by construction! Our venue which was at a golf club now was just piles of dirt! My fiancé and I were mortified! Long story short venue tells us the property was “all of the sudden” bought out and new owner decided to build condos! They offered to transfer us to another one of their properties or a full refund! We ultimately decided to transfer as it was the easiest option! For the inconvenience they are paying to redo our invitations and we also got extra services added to our package free of charge! While we are very happy the situation was taken care of it is extremely frustrating to have to deal with this 2 months before our wedding l! What’s even more annoying is that our new venue told us the old venue knew about the property possibly being sold since before we even signed our contract!

Anyways
has any one ever had a similar situation? Or had to change you’re venue last minute so close to your wedding?

WOW! I feel so sorry for you and your FH!! It's actually totally relieving they were able to somewhat rectify the situation by giving you another property... but still two months away, this should not be happening. This hasn't happened to anyone I know but I am sure from time to time, it does take place. They may have known about this before you signed the contract! That's worse so why would they not disclose that to you? Not an open and honest business. I hope everything works out for you. Have you seen the other venue? Do you like it better or less than your original place?

Wow. I'm glad you found a new place.

I feel like they could have told you guys a while ago about this. What if you didn't have this meeting with them scheduled and you showed up to set up in two months and nothing was there? They could have at least gotten in touch.

Phew! Glad it worked out for you - hopefully the service you receive at the new venue will be better than the old.

My FH and I had to replan our whole wedding 6 months out. We were using an all inclusive vendor that was going to take care of the ceremony/reception/photography/cake etc. and in July we asked for a few minor changes and they came back to us saying that "they thought our personalities didn't match and they had to decide whether or not they wanted to continue to do business with us". Long story short - they "fired" us as clients, gave us all of our money back and now we have a brand new plan that is 100x better and vendors that are 100x better. It turned out to be a blessing! I wish I was on wedding wire prior to hiring them because I had a bad gut feeling about them from the first place and shouldn't have hired them but it all works out in the end. Everything happens for a reason!

Thank you at first I freaked out a bit! But we were able to get a tour of 2 different properties that had our date available. Both beautiful properties! New venue is more fancy, larger, and more amenities! So we are happy! We are just staying positive and seeing it as a blessing in disguise.

Now I’m just wondering if I should have the invitations completely Redone and resent? Or just having a card done with the new address and sending those out ?

We had literally finished sending out invitations the day before we found out we had to change our venue!

I just want to now find Best way to avoid confusion with our guest

I would think to save money, maybe update everyone on your wedding website, if you have one. And then let word of mouth spread or when you have time, make some calls to your guests and let them know that the venue has changed! That would save you some money! Smiley smile

My thoughts exactly! Thing is our last appointment with them was back in June. At the time they did have construction on the parking lot but we were told that would be done by the time our wedding came around so we took their word for it and didn’t stress it . Now we know the truth is that they were getting ready to tear down the place.

Omg that just so unprofessional! I’m so sorry you had to go through that! I can relate to the frustration but I’m very happy it worked out for you! I agree my fiancé was furious but I just kept telling him it wasn’t meant to be and it happened for a reason! Once we saw our new venue he was happy once again Lol

We weren’t expecting anything for free and didn’t even ask because we were just in shock of the whole situation but when they offered it to us at the new venue we were also stoked! They offered us special lighting for our evening ceremony, upgraded linens, and extra hour of partying all complementary! We took it all without hesitation lol

My venue flooded six days before my wedding. Luckily, the owners of the venue (a restaurant) also owned another restaurant in town and moved the reception to the restaurant across the street. I panicked for about 12 hours while my venue coordinator worked this out for us, and my mom and I called every place in town we could think of for a new venue. In reality, our new venue was much nicer and so much more beautiful. Stuff happens, you figure it out, and the wedding happens anyways.

Omg 6 days!!! 😱 I’m so glad everything worked out for you!! I feel like everything happens for a reason it just wasn’t meant to be at the old venue! How did it go with your guest ? Was everyone able to her the memo of the new venue in time ?

It was great for guests. The new venue was across the street in a very small town, so very easy to find and navigate. I told everyone about the change either in person, text or phone. We also only had 75 guests.

Not 60 days before but we did have a venue change at 3 1/2 months before the wedding. It was pretty scary and I spent about a month going non-stop to get things in order and now I am just about 60 days away and everything is finally falling into place. Good luck! I hope that some of the stress starts to relieve soon!

Omg they knew back in June (and let’s be honest they knew even longer before June) and they weren’t up front with you?! That’s insane to me. I told my fiancé your story and was like if that happened to us we’d sure lol. Its Nice they’re adding on some extras and got you another location but this could’ve happened months ago.

Yes I agree! I’m sure they knew ahead of time because someone doesn’t just randomly decide to buy a property out of the blue like it’s process. It’s just very disappointing that they weren’t honest from the beginning because other than this issue everything else went great. It’s an all inclusive venue and all of our other vendors have been awesome. But I just now feel as if I can no longer believe anything they tell me. I’m now just hoping for the best!

One thing I’ve learned working in the corporate world is that nothing is a done deal until it’s done. Until then, it’s business as usual. So unfortunately the venue had to keep booking business in case the deal fell through. However, once it was finalized they absolutely should have contacted you immediately! I can’t even imagine how you must of felt pulling up and seeing a pile of rubble!! So happy you were able to switch easily. Just think, this will be funny some day. Like, “hey remember that time we pulled up to our wedding venue to go over final details and it was demolished? Yeah, good times.” Best wishes to you, can’t wait to see your beautiful BAM 😀
