Successful Sparkler Sendoff

FutureMrsB, on July 3, 2018 at 3:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
So I’ve read a lot of things on these forums about reasons NOT to do a sparkler send off, but I would love to hear from everyone who did one or plans to do one! For those of you who had a successful sparkler send off, what is your advice? How did you line everyone up for it? What did you use to light the sparklers?

TIA! Smiley smile

Hi FutureMrsB! I love the look of a sparkler send-off! It's such a cute way to leave your big day! I haven't personally done it but I know some other engaged couples' on here have! I found a discussion where they talk about lighting them and where to buy them etc. and thought I'd share! Hope it helps Smiley smile

I am doing one!!! I love them! First I bought the quality sparklers that last two minutes and don’t give off much smoke- not the little ones from Walmart. I am planning to assign bridal party members to coordinate with photographer and having 4 or even 6 members to light everyone’s sparklers do they are all lit close together, then when it’s ready two members will open up the doors that we are coming out of And we will run through, pausing to take a kissing photo or two then leaving! We don’t want to do a redo, because I don’t want it to be posed! I think the most important things are someone directing it and then the sparklers to be lit almost at the same time!

We had a sparkler exit and it went well! We haven't gotten our pictures back yet, but it looked really cool in the preview of our wedding video we got to see. Definitely buy wedding sparklers, not normal 4th of July sparklers, they will last longer and be less smoky. I got ours from weddingdaysparklers.com. Our photographer handled lining people up, we had several regular Bic lighters on hand and then once people had their sparklers lit they could pass the flame to the person next to them. We were around the corner while everyone was getting set so I'm not sure of the details!

I had to get 10 inch sparklers due to city ordinance that they had to be less than a foot, so I wish people had been told to hold them up HIGH, they were trying to make an arch but it was so low, we had to really duck and I was afraid my hair would catch on fire! But it was fine, we ran up and down the line a few times before the sparklers went out, stopping in the middle to kiss.

Sparklers work best if you have 2 people coordinating it and organizing everyone. Our vendor coordinators will do ours, and at a wedding I went to recently the venue coordinators did theirs. Like PP said, get the extra long wedding sparklers!!

As as long as you have someone to orchestrate it and make instructions very clear, you should be fine!

Regular sparklers produce more smoke and don't burn as long, so they don't make for as good of photos. I've also heard of people trying to light multiple sparklers at once and ending up with serious burns from them exploding in their hand. Then there are the obvious risks of someone being burned from the sparks.
