Subtle "Food Themed" Wedding

Morgan, on December 15, 2017 at 8:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 34

Let me preface by saying I'm not a fan of "themed" weddings, so I'm using this term VERY loosely and any touches will be quite subtle (no offense to anyone have a themed wedding, it's just not for me)! Anyways, I'm a registered dietitian and FH manages a grocery store. We met working in said grocery store several years ago. Basically, food plays a bigger part of our life than most people. I'm looking for subtle touches that could kind of nod to our history and current life. I've seen centerpieces with cut up lemons or limes in the flower vase, which looks nice but I'm not sold on it yet. I've also thought of using a bouquet made of veggies as my toss bouquet (broccoli has always reminded me of a bouquet, which is what made me think of this... I know it's nerdy and strange).

Has anyone seen food-related decorations at weddings before? If you saw something like the ideas I mentioned, would you think that's weird? Any other ideas? I definitely don't want anything tacky. TIA!

I think this is kind of a cool idea! Have you checked Pinterest? I searched "vegetable centerpieces" and this is one of the images that came up

    I've seen vases like this....

Ornamental kale would be fabulous as decorations or in bouquets - maybe the toss bouquet? Fresh fruit arranged artistically with herbs would be a great centerpiece. Have you checked Pinterest?

"I'm not a fan of themed weddings, but I want to have a themed wedding and not call it one"

    lol

Um. I don't think it would look weird. Honestly when I read the title, the thing that popped into my fat asses head was like a happy meal from mcdonalds as a centerpiece. Those carrots up there are much better.

Love the ideas so far! It's a shame fruits and veggies are kind of expensive! I think my biggest struggle so far is that our colors are purple and yellow, so there are very few "pretty foods" that would work and not spoil on us too quickly.

Perhaps look into incorporating cornucopias? With a mix of fruits and veggies and flowers

I love this idea. I was considering having Kale and artichoke as a part of my decor and bouquet because I'm so wildly allergic to flowers and love the look! I'll attach a few pictures. I know it may be a bit out there but maybe you'll get inspired.

I didn't know artichoke could flower until I started wedding planning.

I've seen photos of artichokes used to hold table numbers. You could also use dried herbs for toss in place of petals and use fresh herbs to top place settings

I have seen a lot with artichokes! I do love that idea, but fresh artichokes are not in season in September and can be difficult to come by. My main concern is the touches looking tacky... glad there are tasteful ways out there to do it! I'll keep exploring Pinterest Smiley smile

I would choose artichokes and herbs over carrots and broccoli.

    Wheatgrass would be another option.

Oh man OP, I would really love to see what you end up doing!

Also, though, I want to eat all the artichokes please.

You could use figs, kumquats, or berries in the flower arrangements. Look up "fruit floral centerpiece" on Pinterest. They're gorgeous.
