So I’m having a “close family only” wedding (around 80 people) on a budget and decided to do my own catering with the help of my family. Our meal is at 5pm and we want to do either Italian food or subs/sandwiches. I’m concerned that doing Italian food will put myself and my family under too much stress trying to prepare/cook/keep food warm. I want them to be able to relax and enjoy the day. My mother, my fiancé, and I are all leaning towards a buffet of subs/sandwiches since it’ll be easier on us to prepare. However, my soon-to-be mother in law thinks subs are tacky and are not “wedding food”. (She’s also a very picky eater and “doesn’t want to eat nothing but a cheese sandwich for her son’s wedding.”) But… I’m paying for the food and my family has to prepare it. Should I stick with quick & easy subs/sandwiches or should I go with the fancier, more difficult Italian food? Help!! (Pictures for reference of sub buffet.) cfb_1530809.jpg

Hi! I know that I'll need LOTS more food than in the photos: the photos were just for a reference/idea of what I had in mind. Smiley smile Our reception will be inside an air conditioned building, which has an attached full-sized kitchen with industrial sized refrigerators! They also have a couple of chafing dishes since they do lots of parties, reunions, and church services there. Part of the reason we are getting married at that location is to be able to use whichever vendors we choose, rather than being constricted to certain rules Smiley smile

I suppose our theme is a bit more casual, so I think Italian food or sandwiches either one would be fine. I could also do premade sandwiches; I just figured it would be easier on the guests to be able to make their food exactly how they prefer it.

    Thank you for your advice!

Looks yummy, but I agree with the comment above that it will get messy quickly. Bruschetta, kanapei, and sweets can be great choices for appetizers and desserts. They offer a wide range of flavors and options for guests to enjoy. Bruschetta, with its crispy bread topped with various toppings like tomatoes, cheese, and herbs, provides a delightful burst of flavor. Kanapei, small bite-sized finger foods with different toppings on bread or crackers, allow for a variety of options and can cater to different preferences. And of course, ending the meal with a selection of sweets is always a delightful treat for guests. Or you could just save money and get Costco Party Platter , because it's full of many things like croissant sandwich platter, chicken and Swiss roller platter, shrimp cocktail party platter, and many others.

Hey Claire! I'm curious, how did your wedding reception pan out last year? Did you end up incorporating any dishes from Costco into your menu?

I'm currently in the process of organizing a pre-wedding party for my niece, and I'm seriously considering Costco Catering for the event.

I've been studying the Costco catering menu quite a bit, and a few items really stand out. I'm leaning towards the meat & cheese platter, shrimp cocktail party platters, Caesar salad plates, and those yummy-looking Asian chicken wraps. For dessert, those tiramisu cups are calling my name! It'd be great to hear your experience if you used them. Cheers!

I was originally planning on doing something very similar myself, before someone pointed out how slow the buffet line would move as people assembled their sandwiches. You could always go with pre-made sub and/or wrap trays that a lot of grocery stores sell. Most you have to pre-order a few days in advance so make sure you price check and plan order ahead of time. You can have some family members make a few salads to go along with it, so that way no one is scrambling during the wedding and everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

I decided to opt out for charcuterie (with assorted sliced deli meats, cheese, pickles, olives & crackers) served on teired plates on the dinning tables and a full out dessert buffet (all bought from grocery stores) i guess in the end I went with what looked the fanciest without high costs or long tines. But my wedding is planned in the evening (7-12) so that along probably wouldn't work for you.
