String Quartet for Ceremony.... no idea what to have played

SageTree, on October 17, 2016 at 11:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

We hired a string quartet for the ceremony, and I'm having difficulty picking a song. I don't want to have the traditional song played when the bridal party and I go down the aisle. I want something different, but I can't find any ideas on what to have played... any suggestions???

Look it up on YouTube! "Yellow" from Coldplay is one of my favorite covers. Also, most of the musicians I looked into had all the different genres on their sample song sheet so that gave me quite a few to choose from.

Ask them. Many of them are doing Vitamin String selections, but maybe if you're not that traditional, a string quartet isn't the best choice?

We had "Renegades" for the bridal party to come out to, and then I came out to Unaccompanied Cello Suite in G Major.

Does your quartet have samples on their website?

Ask them for suggestions. It may be less expensive to have them play something they already know instead of them having to learn something new.

There are many classical adaptations of popular/current pop songs, and love songs. Spend some time on youtube, or on any music streaming service, looking at "classical versions" of songs you like. I'm sure you'll find something.

We got a violinist and she gave us list of songs, I'm sure they will have plenty of suggestions. YouTube is a great tool to use for ideas.

Talk to them about their repertoire - experienced professionals can sight-read almost anything, but if they're younger/non-pro players they probably won't want to learn a bunch of new pieces just for your wedding. And think about what pieces have meaning to you and FH.

I went with a lot of classical pieces for my string trio ceremony, since chamber music is a passion of mine: there are about 15-20 'typical' pieces that work well for small string groups. You can find listing and samples of them on many wedding string quartet websites. Handel is a perennial favorite - we're walking out afterward to his Fireworks - Rejouissance, which is so joyful and energetic! I'm walking in to Charpentier's Te Deum, which is lovely and expressive while still keeping a good pace (I'll have a large lawn to get across)

Thank you all so much. My FMIL booked them, so I was unable to get any real clear information on what they could play. I'll have to talk to her about it, and get in contact with them! Thank you all for the guidance!
