Stressed! My hair and makeup artist just cancelled on me because....

Neema , on April 21, 2014 at 11:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

She is engaged and getting married the same week as me next year and she is taking the month before and after the wedding off. I already paid for the trial, so I'm out that money and because I'm getting married in the peak/prime wedding month in Scottsdale, most of the top hair & make up artists are already booked.

Feeling a bit bummed out especially now that I'll have to shell out more cash for another trial that I might or might not like.

Sorry. Just venting.

Since she cancelled, she should return any money you paid.

She should definitely give you your trial money back since she cancelled.

At the least did she offer you any referrals? I agree that she should give you your money back since she cancelled.

I agree, you should check with her about refunding the money since she cancelled and your trial was for your wedding day hair and makeup with her. Did you sign a contract? Does it say anything in there about her cancellation policy? Also, can you ask her for recommendations of artists? She should know a network of hair and makeup artists to recommend so you can start looking for someone else. Sorry Smiley sad.

It's funny, when we did the trial last month, she said she'd be in touch. I didn't want to harass her right away since I know that she is really busy at this time. I sent her an email today asking for the contract and she said that she was meaning to get back to me to let me know that she wouldn't be available. It's not the trial $$ that I already paid that I'm worried about so much... just the hassle of finding someone else who is really good. She is probably one of the best hair/makeup artists in the area and now I'm just worried that I'm going to have someone who is just as pricey but totally mediocre.

Well your wedding is a little less than a year away. There should still be some MUA that have openings. Good thing is she's not canceling the week before your wedding.....see the silver lining Smiley smile

She had given me a referral before and I didn't like that MUA's work at all. I have a very specific look I'm going for.. It seems like a year away is a lot of time but in Arizona, March is really the last month before it gets really hot and all of the good people are booked. I'm sure I'll find someone else but it's just annoying. Thanks for your support guys!

Granted I do not live in your area but I secured my MUA about 2 weeks ago and there were quite a few MUAs that still had availability for my date. My wedding is 5 months away so hopefully you will be able to find someone just as great as your first MUA. Good luck in your search.

First – I would highly recommend getting the money back because unless this is a shotgun wedding or something similar, she knew she was getting married.

Secondly, I wish you nothing but the best in a stressful situation, hope that it all works out for you and you find some equally good (or even better!)

I'm sure you'll be able to find someone great.

She should give you the money back for the trial though - why should you pay for a trial for something you now cannot have?

I feel your pain. Finding a Mua was the hardest vendor to find for me. Because I had no bridesmaids and it was only me getting my makeup done, I couldn't find anyone to come to me! I finally found one and they cancelled on me because they say the Friday before thanksgiving is a busy time for eye brow waxing and my makeup artist is their best waxer. You can't make this stuff up! I ended up finding someone at a local salon near my hotel and she was amazing. Good luck with your search.

I'm sorry. I feel like that's very unfair. It can be stressful when something doent work out how you planned but you do still have a year and although people are starting to book up I'm sure you will find someone else you like. Stay positive Smiley smile and hopefully you have pic of the trial you already did so you can show the new person

I'm not sure I agree with her refunding your trial charge like everyone else is saying. You hadn't signed a contract yet and she may not have known at that time that she wouldn't have been available.

Same thing just happened to me with my hair stylist I really wanted to book. I did a trial with her before my engagement photos. I really liked her but it turns out her cousins bar/bat mitzvah (? I'm not Jewish, sorry not sure of the diff. Haha.) was the same day as my wedding and she'd be doing her sister and moms hair or something. It was a bummer to hear but I understand she has a life too and I'll just have to find someone else... But I didn't expect my money back at all. Especially since I had my hair done for a reason that day and I plan on doing my hair diff for my wedding anyway. But my situation might be a little diff.

I would absolutely ask for the trial money back. Put it towards your new MUA. She should have offered this outright.

Why would you be the out the money? That makes no sense.
