Stressed and venting, help...

Haley, on January 17, 2020 at 3:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I am really needing to vent right now, and if y'all have any advice that would be great lol. As of right now my wedding date is set for April 4, 2020. Well, my fiance is in the Marine Corps, and over the past 2 years of us being together I've learned that the military is very unpredictable, and you work around their time not the other way around. Anyways for the past few months, planning was going really smoothly, and I was basically done. I just needed to start paying our vendors off. Well... last night my fiance told me that there is a training going on from March-May, and it is mandatory for him to go. He tried talking to the sergeants, and they told him that they won't let him take leave even though it's for HIS wedding. He told me that we just need to go ahead and change the date. So naturally, I completely lost it and starting panicked. I've already contacted our venue and luckily they have an opening for June 6th. I know I need to start contacting the rest of my vendors asap. I'm just worried that they will already be booked, and I have to start completely over. I also know that I'm not going to be able to get all of my money back cause how close we were to the wedding, but still this whole thing sucks. I've already sent out STDs. And I've bought invites, rsvps, and favors (with 4-4-2020 printed on them). Do I resend Save the Dates with our new date or what? Sorry for the long post I'm just at a complete lost right now. Any advice would be really appreciated.

First I would call of your vendors. Then I would notify all of your guests. Hopefully your vendors are available, but since you are close to the wedding they very well might not be. I am sorry this is happening.

FH and I had to do this for my brother-in-law! He's also a Marine and we found out right after we ordered our Save the Dates that he's being deployed from March 2020 until January 2021. Our wedding was originally scheduled for May 3, 2020. I contacted all of our vendors ASAP to find another date that would work for everyone and thankfully it all worked out (even if we don't get our spring wedding as planned). Contact all your vendors with three or four possible dates and ask which ones they have available so you can find one where most if not all of them line up for one date. We still sent our save the dates, I just had to change the date on them myself lol. I wouldn't necessarily send new save the dates, but I would definitely spread the word and maybe send your invites out around 10-12 weeks rather than 6-8 weeks before the wedding just in case. Everything will work out, don't stress!

Some of our friends had to completely change everything as their original venue burned down. Things like this happen. If you send out a save the date, just include a small explanation. When you call your vendors, they may be busy, but someone else will be available to help!
Instead of panicking, think of the extra 2 months as more time to make the wedding even more perfect. This is just a small set back. And remember that your FH is probably just as mad as you are. You got this!
