Strapless Dress Cover-up

olivebranch, on November 13, 2015 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I’m full of questions!

I LOVE my wedding dress with one tiny exception. It’s strapless and I’m self-conscious of my shoulders and upper-arms being so exposed.

Has anyone added a lace cover-up to their ensemble? I’m thinking of the type that is worn underneath the bodice since my dress has beading around the waist.

I’ve seen them on David Bridal’s website, but none of the stores near me have them in stock to try on, so I can’t wrap me head around how it would look. I see them all over pinterest too, but they are usually the type that goes over the bodice.

My concerns are itchiness and that it would look weird with a straight-across neckline. Any advice?

I would take it to a seamstress and see if they cant make one for your dress. Or you could always add cap sleeves. They tend to match most styles and necklines in my opinion.

A lot of alteration places will add straps. If you take them in they can help you visualize with different fabrics.

I am the same way. My dress is also strapless, but I'm getting cap sleeves added. They might be something to consider. Also I would see what the DB return policy is. Maybe order one you like and see how it looks. Just make sure you can return it if you don't like it.

I felt the same way on my big day, but I didn't want to add sleeves permanently so instead I bought a jacket. It surprisingly matched my dress perfectly. Im glad it wasn't permanent because our day was extremely hot for October. I ended up leaving my fingertip veil on the entire reception and it covered my back and shoulders. Smiley smile

Are you wearing a veil? I was adamantly against a strapless dress due to self-consciousness as well, but of course I fell in love with a strapless freaking dress Smiley smile The sales lady told me that illusion-type of tops could be added to them but once I got to a seamstress, it just didn't look right. However, when I have my veil on with the dress, it gives me a great sense of security. I mean, I know it's see through, but just having something covering my back and laying against my shoulders makes me feel so much better about the strapless dress.

I'm hesitant to have anything added permanently, mostly due to the high cost of alterations. Also, DB does not accept returns at all, especially if a goen has been altered. So, again...mikely not something I'll pursue.

@Mrs. B -- I like the idea of a jacket, and yoirs is very similar to what I'm imagining. May I ask where you found yours? Your veil is beautiful too!

@Summer T. -- I do plan on wearing a veil, although I have no clue what style to look for yet. I probably need to start thinking about that. I need something that would look good with a laurel crown.

@Pinky Winter Promise -- That's an interesting solution. I love the lace detail. It looks like it's very long? Past the waist?

Thanks for the link to that website. I see a few drool-worthy pieces on there!

I understand the concern. Being larger busted, I did not want to be pulling my dress up all night, and I know strapless is going to cause a lot of slippage as the night wears on.

I think straps or a nice jacket, bolero would add something to the dress and give a bit of security to it.
