Strapless Dress and want Sleeves Woes

GoodPrincessButtercup, on December 20, 2017 at 7:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I got a strapless dress but I’m contemplating having the seamstress add sleeves. Tell me your experiences having sleeves added in the alterations phase.

I've seen it turn out lovely. I've been considering doing it myself (due in large part to the fact that my grandma is pressuring me too. lol)

It shouldn't be a problem. My dress started out as cap sleeves, but they just cut it off and did the pattern for the long sleeves; I had to let them know how long I wanted the sleeves as they measured me.

My dress comes with detachable sleeves that sit on the shoulders. I was warned to take them off for the reception for more freedom of movement. After seeing my cousin struggle with similiar sleeves and not being able to lift her arms, I appreciated the feedback. Moral of the story...if you add sleeves, make sure it doesnt impede your motion.

My dress was initially strapless but then sleeves were added as part of the customization of the dress BEFORE alterations so we did an entire buildup and sleeves. I will say sleeves do impede motion somewhat so something to keep in mind.

I’m having sleeves added for the ceremony and they will have snaps so if I choose to take them off, I can. I like options and it didn’t cost too much extra money or time. I thought it was worth it.

It usually can be done, I didn’t want to get all the extra alterations done so I’m wearing a bolero/topper thing

I added straps to my first wedding dress and it came out really pretty. I was indecisive so the seamstress made them removable and gave me a set with sparkle and a set without.

It certainly can be done, but might not look as "natural" as a dress that was designed with sleeves. As long as you're okay with that, then go for it! I also think boleros, mentioned by a previous poster, are a great alternative. Then you can always take it off when the dance floor gets hot!

    I had hook on sleeves.

I could of removed them if I wanted but I didn't. Ftr- I loved my beaded cap sleeves. I think they were my favorite thing about my dress.
