Stranger bought something from our amazon registry?

Michelle, on July 7, 2015 at 10:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 17

I was just checking up on our registry (bridal shower this weekend woohoo!!) and Amazon has a "thank you" section where it keeps track of who bought what with their addresses so you can send them thank you notes. Well I see another item has been purchased but neither FH nor I recognize the name of the person that purchased it and they live in a state that neither of us know anyone in. What in the world? Could someone has bought from the wrong registry by accident? What do I do if we receive this gift in the mail? I am at a loss here. Haha. Hopefully they realize their mistake before anything is shipped! Anyone else had a similar experience?

That's what I was going to say - are you on the WW registry list? (gifting one another)

I thought about that for a second but I don't think I ever put my information on any of those discussions for that?

That happened to us when we first got engaged. FH parents were telling everyone and random people we'd never even heard of were sending us gifts from our registry. Check with parents is all I can say.

Thanks Catherine! I guess I do need to check with all the parents before I freak out about what to do. Smiley smile

Maybe someone ordered thru a friend or family members Amazon Prime account. Odd that it's from a state you don't know anyone in though

It could be from one of your invited guests, who doesn't have internet access or isn't used to ordering online, and asked a friend/relative to help them? I've ordered a number of things online, for my grandmother, who's never touched a computer.

It could be by accident - we had a couple things purchased off our registry that we never got. I'm imagining that people had the wrong registry up when they purchased for someone else.

I'm with the other girls, it could be someone using their relatives amazon account or a random relative, distant twice removed family member that heard through the grapevine.

I use my MOH's prime account, so that could be it too.

I had a similar situation today. We received an item from our bed Bath & Beyond registry, but it was not purchased through the registry, meaning that someone had our address and sent it to us directly from Bed Bath & Beyond. The name on the receipt was some weird Russian name address truly in the Ukraine was addressed from New York zip code, and the phone number was an unregistered VoIP from Las Vegas (I called BB&B because I didn't recognize the sender and they helped as much as they could).
I checked both of my main credit cards to make sure that there were no fraudulent purchases on them, and I think that it may be from a scam artist that I made friends with two years ago. she went to jail while I knew her for getting a DUI and then was extradited to a different state for previously stealing the credit card numbers from her aunt and uncle. The message on my enclosed invoice said "Thank you!"
Having a ??? moment here. I hope it's you, Ashley.

Similar situation on my registry from Williams Sonoma, got a gift and have no clue who sent it! Trying to get a hold of WS to find out to send a thank you card.
