Strange yet intriguing unity ceremony. Need help from crafty brides!

Debbie, on July 29, 2013 at 11:05 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

I was looking for a unique unity ceremony and I found one that peaks my interest. A CONCRETE UNITY...yes, you heard it right.

The Bride and Groom will interlock hands and create hand prints in the cement. After the ceremony, have the attendant remove the tray and give it some finishing touches (write your names, the date, and put in some stones, etc.) Also make sure to have two towels on hand to quickly wash off! In this instance, it will take more planning and more patience. you will come away with a beautiful stone that symbolizes your union, that can stay in your house or in your garden for the rest of your lives.

Any ideas on how to pull this off? Concrete seems too temperamental and also too messy. Is there a clay we can use to make the impressions instead of concrete? maybe wear latex gloves when making the impressions?

Any helpful ideas would be appreciated!

I really like this idea!! But not sure what else you can use, but perhaps doing it during the reception vs ceremony might make it a bit easier and less time sensitive? Perhaps after your first dance or something? That way you can also add your own stones/ names/ etc and really make it personal.

If you did it during the reception, you could even have guests add a stone to it... although I suppose this could also be done during cocktail hour after the ceremony too (if you're having one). You could have a container of pre-selected stones so that you know you like them all, and then set it out for each guest to set one in Smiley smile

This is a really neat idea. I've never heard of it. I like the idea of doing it at the ceremony then having guests add stones or coloured glass to it at the cocktail hour. Concrete takes a while to set, so you would have to do a practice one well before the wedding to see how long it takes. If you want something other than concrete, I suggest you go to a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's and ask someone about it. Most people who work in those stores are very knowledgeable.

I've never heard of plaster of paris before. I will have to look that up.

The kid handprint kits seems like a great go-to also. I will have to pick one up ASAP.

    Thanks for the advice!

It sounds too messy for me, but then, I don't even like red wine. How bout tracing your hands on nice, flat piece or drawing paper?
