Straightening curly hair for my outdoor wedding

Barbara, on May 12, 2021 at 4:30 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9
I have 3a/3b hair and After giving it much that I’ve decided that I’m going to be doing a vintage Hollywood curls/wave for my wedding. The trouble is that my wedding is outside and I am terrified that my hair won’t even make it to the ceremony.

My wedding is in January in Miami which is a cooler month, so hopefully I won’t have to deal with the usual heat/humidity but I’m still concerned about finding a stylist who will understand my concerns. Most of the stylists I’ve seen have portfolios with women with either fair hair or women of color who already had straight hair before being styled.

Anyone have any tips for keeping the frizz away or stylists who have experience with curly hair would be appreciated!
I also included a pic of what i want to do and my curly hair as well! Straightening curly hair for my outdoor wedding 1

Make sure to really communicate with your hair stylist on what you want, what your concerns are, and if you can do a trial run. They should let you know exactly what products they recommend to keep on hand for touch ups, what they will be using on you, etc.

If possible, I would try to find a curly hair salon (if there is one in Miami) or at the very least, a stylist who specializes in curly hair. That’s what I do to get my hair styled in general. They have special training and products for curly hair and will have a better idea how to tame your beautiful hair!

First off your curls are gorgeous.

I’m another curly girl, but I kept it curly for my wedding day.
Like someone else mentioned, try to find someone familiar with curly hair. I had to find a new stylist two weeks before my wedding. The first wasn’t familiar with curls and her updos just caused frizz.
The second had to add heat to tame some of the frizz.
    Good luck!

My hair is very similar to yours! I’m not a hairstylist and rarely wear my hair straight, but I’ve noticed that when I do it’s always less frizzy on day two. So if you’re able to wash/flat iron the day before you actually need it, and then flat iron/style again, that might help. Also, oil is your friend. Good luck!

Thank you! I do go to a curly hair salon already. I’m going to talk to them during my next visit and see what they tell me.

I have curly hair as well and our wedding is January in fl. I picked that month so it is cooler for my hair and makeup hahah. But my stylist suggested blow drying my hair straight first and then doing my curls with the flat iron while also it will lock in the straight hair at the same time if that makes sense .
