Stock the Bar Shower?

TamraTexas, on May 1, 2017 at 6:44 PM

So I got invited to a couples shower for my coworker. It's a "Stock Our Bar" shower and everyone is encouraged to bring bottles of alcohol as the gift. Apparently that's what they're using to stock their wedding reception bar. Is that a thing???

Maybe she was just saying that offhandedly. You know, like just trying to make a joke. I can't imagine someone would actually do this for their wedding liquor.

If its a housewarming, fine. If it's for the reception? Imma buy some non-alcoholic apple cider and call it a day.

I may or may not actually give it to them.

Maybe your friend is mistaken about the purpose of the shower?

Juice it is. Regardless I wouldn't be stocking home or wedding for anyone else.

Wait what??? I always thought that meant gifts of alcohol for their "bar" at home (also a weird concept to me) not stock the bar for the wedding! That is gross! Bring them one 1oz mini bottle of cheap vodka, but drink it first and put water in it hah that's what I'd do.

Ummm, here's what I believe -- stock your own damn bar -- whether it's the home bar or the reception bar.

Bring them a two liter bottle of Coke Zero, regular Coca Cola, and Seven-up. If they intend to stock their wedding bar with gifts, courtesy of their guests, they can spring for the Diet 7-UP. Yuck.

I'm almost positive your work friend is probably the one who doesn't understand what this shower is for.

Who is hosting it? Why don't you ask them the purpose?

My aunt is throwing us a coed stock the bar shower for our home.. Definitely not for the wedding!

I've never heard of it being used for the reception! My MOH is throwing us a housewarming "stock the bar" kind of thing...but it's all for personal use. That's rude AF.

I have always seen these as housewarming parties, which I think makes a lot of sense. For a wedding it's weird.
